Today I've bolted the bellhousing to my new gearbox, fitted a new spigot bush, refitted the flywheel, fitted a new clutch and bolted the gearbox back onto the engine :). I'm back in work tomorrow until Tuesday :(, so the engine crane is booked for Wednesday. Hopefully the engine will be running by Thursday afternoon.

Once the gearbox swap is complete I can then start the diff swap, probably another couple of weeks before the car is back on the road properly ;D ;D.

I also started to rebush the gearlever remote, but I found that the O rings in the kit which seal the remote housing are a poor/slack fit. Measured the old ones and they were 16mm o/d and 2mm cross section, the new ones were 15mm o/d so they were slack in the groove. After measuring the groove I reckon some 16mm o/d and 2.5mm cross section will fit much better.

Here's a piccy of the 6-3-1 long secondary work so far.  I had to take it out of the long secondaries thread cuz we were ruining the intent of the thread.  These pics belong here.

There's one more pipe to do but I'm waiting on supplies...

Oops, ignore the Antipodean background.  I was playing and it must've stuck ::)

Yeah the background is a bit odd....  :P.  I like the pipes alot though..... in fact I'd like them on my car except it wouldn't fit as that W58 g/box is fat just where your collector is.

Will be MOST interested to hear what effect it has on performance.  I have ordered a scary big pile of preformed bends to make a manifold with, but there is going to be some SERIOUS learning going on during the build  ::).  I seem to remember you said you bought the collector - could you remind me where from and was it horribly expensive?

Cheers

The collector is from Burns Stainless http://www.burnsstainless.com/ and I think was worth the $175 I paid for it.  It really is a beautiful bit of work.  There's an album devoted to it on my Photobucket link.

I attempted to order a collector for the Loong 6-2-1 pipes to get that moving forward and Vince misunderstood and sent me a drawing for an entirely new 6-2-1.  What he's speced out looks remarkably like GT's F1 illustration above.  That is, stepped primary, waisted collector and tail pipe ring.

I clarified that I just wanted the collector but I'm sorely tempted to build a system as he specified.  I'm starting to enjoy this cutting and pasting lark and even learning not to get burnt 8)

edit:  When I said above I was thinking of the other thread, this is the pic I was thinking of.

Got the scruffy Vitesse back on the road, checked fluids, fixed choke cable .... but I'm unable to get a nice tickover ... when you floor it goes pretty well  ;D

Bought a new "any old thing" coil on the way home today, chucked it on and she fired. Fired!!

Didn't run, you understand, but fired. Huzzah! Enthusiasm renewed it's time to bung in a radiator, I think. And figure out what those carbs are doing, if anything.  :)

Here's something off-topic as usual. I want a Scarpar (?) board, as mentioned late-on in this rather amusing article by one of my fave writers of the mo.  http://www.cracked.com/blog/the-hoverboard-lie-how-back-to-the-future-ruined-childhood/

Lux - like your Vitesse muchly. Who needs tickover?! :D

Thanks .... problem is I live in town and they changed the traffic light programming so you go from red to red to red to red ......  >:(

Only when you're not stuck in a traffic jam...  >:(

This week I've managed to kill my diff totally. I have a puddle of GL4 on my garage floor now and the herald is laid up for some time me thinks.

I have started dismantling the GT6.  Removing fueltank turned out to be slightly more difficult than expected as car has experienced a hard rear-end hit at a time. This meant that the tank was trapped between the rear valance and the bar for the boot boards.  Well - with the help of a pry-bar it was removed. Only to find out that it was leaking where the two halves had been joined. Also it is filled with junk. Will be sent of for reconditioning shortish.

Bumpers has also suffered badly from said accident, Bollox :'(

Cheers

Nick - there's a crop of bumpers on ebay right now. I keep looking at them wistfully.

Meantime mine now runs. It runs, I tell you. It's only been 18 years since this car had a running engine in it - and 19 years since this particular engine was rebuilt. That's got to be historic, right?  :) :)

FWIW, Strombergs do like to have their pipes on don't they? Lest they refuse to suck... and whoever tightened the rockers down that hard wants drilling.

Shoot. At some point soon I've got to fit the interior I suppose. I really don't want to do that!  :-/
