Royboy66 Posted June 21, 2009 Posted June 21, 2009 Ok then, thought on this please, My GT6 starts fine on choke, then It will idle ok without choke after a few mins running, but if I take it for a good run, whenI pull over, it will tick over for say 30secs, then it starts to drop ,then eventually stalls, If I blip the throttle as it dies,it will return to tick over for another 30secs,then same again , slows and dies. I was thinking mixture, but Mr Jones mentioned float heights! Im sure there isnt any vacuum leaks, and tappets are set ok. Any thoughts ppl? oh, current spec is, HS6's, standard manifold, k+n 's , cant remember needles, will look 2mrw! :B Roy 8)
GT6_sleeper Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 hi roy, sorry not a reply about above just sent you a PM but it was weird as it says sent to 67old not you?? so just check for me please. cheers
smithy Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 ....sent to 67old not you??..... A psuedonym for Roy? Surely he's a little younger than that, no? :B In respect to the tick Roy, hows the dizzy pedestal - properly old-fashioned? And how is the vacuum advance mechanism therein, all good? Might be worth glancing at to get it out of the way if you haven't already (since you seem to be pretty focussed on carbs/induction leaks etc.).
Nick Jones Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 Roy, Sounds to me like it might be flooding due to rising fuel levels in the float chambers. Happens at idle as fuel demand is lowest there. Caused by the needle valves not quite sealing, either because they are faulty or because the fuel pressure is a bit too high. If the float levels are set a bit high in the first place that won't help either. I quite like the viton tipped needle valves but others differ on this. One indicator is if you blip the throttle to recover it it just before it dies, you may get a puff of black smoke indicating real rich. May also smell increasingly rich as idle fades. During normal running the leak becomes insignificantly small and thus irrelevent so you will get normal looking plugs. If you pull the plugs right after a stall they might be wet/sooty though? Cheers Nick Haven't changed my opinion..... . Fuel pressure and needle valve condition, but also check float heights while at it. I give this a high chance of being the problem - but then I'm biased Nick
sorbs Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 It smelt pretty rich as you drove off this evening. Did I mention the loose chippings? :B
