mk2vitesses Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 Hi All. I know there has been various threads on this subject, I tried to find one to tack this info to it but gave up. I followed Nicks idea and fitted a Mk2 Golf fan to my heater box, I then looked for a small three speed switch that would fit where the toggle switch came from! Anyway I have sourced a suitable switch http://www.cbsonline.co.uk/3-speed-heater-fan-switch--swfan-1578-p.asp. The switch has five pins you need to use C = power (use purple wire AKA Lucas fused IGN switched feed) L = low, M = medium, H = fast!! The spare pin is for a warning lamp? When you obtain the fan motor from the scrappy don't forget the plug and lead!! The VW wiring codes are white = slow, yellow/black = medium, yellow = fast, brown = ground (Negative earth vehicles) I hope this is of some use. Simon.
triumphlux Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 Still undecided if I shozld convert the heater motor or keep things original. But thanks for the info, at least if I decide to to it I know how to sort it out
mk2vitesses Posted December 15, 2009 Author Posted December 15, 2009 I am very pleased with the airflow, cutting the hole was not fun, but now it's all installed and the switch wired it was worth the effort! http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x119/mk2vitesses/PIC00016.jpg The cover is now powder coated black.
Nick Jones Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 Ah, thanks for the switch link - mine still requires wire swapping under the bonnet to change speeds :B. Works alot better than the original but still pretty pathetic airflow compared to the Audi which practically pops the windows out on full power Nick
