spitty67 Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 Hi, Im fitting an izusu trooper starter and have already thinned down the starter spacer to 5mm. Does anyone know if the starter ring gear needs to be turned round as the starter gear comes from the opposite side? Cheers, andy
GT6Steve Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 I've never changed anything so far. Just a bolt on it seems...YMMV
Nick Jones Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 Mine works fine with the ring gear the "wrong" way. In my experience pre-engaged starters don't much care if there is a chamfer on the ring gear or not - unlike the inertia ones that have a very low hit rate without it...... Nick
flatter4 Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 Yep - do not change, it does not help on pre- engaged (I think it puts chamfer wrong side too - need to look at the bits).
spitty67 Posted February 21, 2010 Author Posted February 21, 2010 I`ve just fitted it with a standard spacer machined down by 5mm and it works a like a beast! Sounds so much better faster, quieter turn over and no runnnuuuuunnnnnnuuunnnnn noises any more!
