JohnD Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 All, I have a Newtronics. Now, I've lost almost all my sparks. Problem is, this came just after I rewired the dashboard, but as far as I can tell, I've replaced all the connections as they should be. What tests have I done? 1/ The coil is getting 12V. 2/ The eletronic unti is getting 12V, and its earth is good. 3/ If I put a plug in the coil-to-dizzy lead and make-and-break the primary circuit, I get a spark. 4/With a 'spark plug tester' - little neon gadget that goes in line with the HiTension lead to a plug - added to the above set-up, I get a brief glow when I press the starter. 5/ Newtronic instructions say to test the electronic unit, short the Blue and Red leads in the cable to the optical unit in the dizzy. A spark shows a working unit. I don't get a spark. So; A/ Why do I get that little glow when I use the starter? Is it relevant? B/ Is the electronic unit bust? I've had it ten years, so it owes me nothing. C/ If it is, any recomendations for a new one? I know that the definitive answer is to go for Megajolt, but I do NOT want to take that on with the CLM trip looming. Thanks, John
Nick Jones Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 Sounds like the Newtronics has died...... Points for CLM, then Megajolt (distributorless may be an issue for some of your regs?) or Simon BBC unit? 123 programmable is another, more costly option. Nick
