Jony Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 No i hadnt sorry Roy what do you mean lost the rear wheels as in halfshaft snapping ? i think it was to do with the wheels studs or soemthing, im sure hell be back to clarify, did some nasty damage to! although hes got it fixed now and looks good again. nice gt though, looked good on the 10CR:D
Jony Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 Hey Roy His cars always so clean come to mention it it was rather clean on the 10CR lolnever seemed to get dirty, or i didnt look very much lol
Royboy66 Posted January 21, 2008 Author Posted January 21, 2008 Thanku! Dave!( I aint no 'polisher' though! ) Ian! nice to hear from you again! Im hoping to get to some of the race meets this season, for a spectate! Very Breifly, I lost a rear pass wheel entering a roundabout 1 mile from Home!! :-/ As Jony says, it was wheel stud faliure( uprated to 7/16 studs now) I wrecked the rear wing, rear inner&outer arch, and bent the rear valance & boot floor! Had the work done at Douglas msport in Northampton( very pleased) Ive just got it all back together! ish They gave me a bit of left over paint, so atm Im stripping the bits off the bulkhead to give it a bit of a tidy up!! See you at Stoneleigh?? Roy 8) Jony, I think it was All that Rain near Stuttgart that washed the car clean!! ;D

GT6Steve Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 That's looking good Roy!! There's purity of form to the MK1's that I admire. And I love white cars in general.
Royboy66 Posted January 21, 2008 Author Posted January 21, 2008 Cheers steve, got the brake m/c off at the mo, will be fitting those speedbleeders when I re fill fluids! Cheers Roy 8)
Nick B. Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 What a great opportunity to discuss brakefluids. when I redid my brakes in the spit I converted to silicone brakefluid. This was mostly to protect paintwork (which I have not regretted since as I have had a leak under the MC.) Any thoughts on fluids? Nick
Jony Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 if you dont like driving very fast then silicone is fine, but i noticed on the spit 6, its RUBBISH! if you drive spiritidly then i found my brakes dispeared(was not pads as they were mintex ones) and didnt like the feel of them much, aslong as you didnt mind carry to spare bottles id say silicone in clutch and mineral in brakes but hats just me, i will probably also be fitting a SS plate under the master cylinders aswell so if i do have a leak its all cought and not loss of paint!!!
Royboy66 Posted January 22, 2008 Author Posted January 22, 2008 Interesting, At the mo I have my bulkhead all stripped off ready to re paint it and generally make it look better after some fluid leaks!! Jony, Ive also heard about silicone fluid not being as good when worked hard! I Like the idea of just silicone in the clutch, dont know anything about mineral fluid though??? Anyone? should have it all back together by next week, any thoughts on what to go for?? Roy 8)
DaveNotSoSideways Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 I like very much Castrol fluid for general use. http://www.merlinmotorsport.co.uk/FLUIDS-Brake-Fluid-Castrol/c56_120_463/p511/CASTROL-RESPONSE-SUPER-DOT-4/product_info.html Gave a brick hard pedal. Best to just fix any leaks and forget it. If you 2pack the paint it'll not strip off anywhere near as easily as cellulose.
Debs Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 I'll second what Dave says. Castrol Response is excellent stuff, we use it in the race Midget and I'll be using it in the G15. Excellent fade resistance, rock hard pedal, much cheaper than SRF and nowhere near as hygroscopic as AP551 or AP600.
DaveNotSoSideways Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 Yep. I have tried plenty of the years, thats the best by a long shot! Amazing there is such a difference between DOT4's.
Royboy66 Posted January 22, 2008 Author Posted January 22, 2008 ok, thanks ,will look at trying some, what about the clutch fluid?? same ? Dave, I got a little bit of 2 pack& activator left from when they painted new wing etc. Im gonna try brushing that on! tips?? Roy 8)
DaveNotSoSideways Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 Same in the clutch. Firstly etch any baremetal. Prime it up, leaving a rough kind of sprayed finish. Buy a nice soft "hair" brush, about 1.5" wide. Mix some 2pack and activator, leave it for an hour (give or take, don't rush it with heat), stiring every few mins, till it just starts to thicken a bit. Start painting it... If you get it right (timing), it'll come out really well..... If you are too late and its gone a bit thick not so good, same as too thin... Helps to use WHITE primer...(my best tip)
