GT6Steve
Patience please my friends, I know I've asked this question at least twice before but can't seem to dredge it out of the archives. Who has a decent, lightweight GRP bonnet for the MK3 GT6? If I can't sell this Yellow Peril I'm looking at it to race it and firstly it has to shed some baggage. Quiller shows a GRP bonnet assembly for 235 Pounds! Can that be true?? They provide no pictures so I'd assume not. Any thoughts?
spitNL
Hi Steve, 235 Sounds like a normal price for a new one. You could sell your steel bonnet for more. Graveyard has one for 65UKP. Better to have someone take a look at it before you buy. :-/ Look under bargain bits: http://www.spitfireg1.f9.co.uk/partslist.htm Some others are: - Honeybourne Mouldings 220 http://www.honeybournemouldings.co.uk/triumph.htm - smith and deakin 280 Le Mans style bonnets: - T6 680 - Jigsaw 580 Cheers, Frederick
GT6Steve
Ta for that Frederick, So far Spitfire Graveyard has. Quiller has not responded and a few minutes ago I sent an Email to HB for query. Hilarious you should suggest my steel bonnets have value. Do you know what we have a lot of in the desert? Not rust, guess again... I have al least three MK2 bonnets on the (flat) roof of the garage cuz there's no better place for them. I have rear deck lids cuz no one ever needs them. There should be some huge US/EU money hole developed to equalize these metal definciecies across the globe. OH wait, that's more a UN style project! oh never mind...... spitNL
Really? If you look on ebay.com there are several spitfire bonnets for sale in the US, with prices ranging from 150$ to 700$ Not all the US is desert. http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=triumph+hood&_sacat=0&_dmpt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&_odkw=gt6+hood&_osacat=0&bkBtn=&_trksid=p3286.m270.l1313 New bonnet is not listed on moss motors but probably around 1950$, new trunk lid is 840$, both mk4/1500. GT6_sleeper
Spitfire graveyard website is rather old and often wrong, my advice is to look at what your buying before you get it from him. I picked up a fibregalss mk3 gt6 bonnet from chic doig last summer for £50 at stafford. might be worth giving him a ring as what he says is what you get no bullsh!t like i told you that GT6 tub you have sat there would fetch a nice amount in the UK, it is not so much the steel price it is the lack of rust ;D
AlexC
Steve, A little off topic but was does shipping run you on a GRP bonnet from the UK?
GT6Steve
I don't have a clue yet. None of the vendors contacted have bothered to respond. Must be a bloody good economy in UK right now as none of the Brits I've contacted care much for the sales. Oops, not fair. Spit graveyard responded immediately whilst a LandRover seller hasn't responded to a half dozen E-mails... Last GRP bonnet I ordered twenty years ago cost $800 delivered to the racetrack. That was a Spit style with like Dave's and I had to cut out the flat bulge and make my own GT6 MK2 bulge. I suspect I paid for my bonnet as well as the fellow 's who arranged the order I'll bet it'll be something like $500...

Not from where I'm sitting....... we're at 15% of budget after 60% of month - again! Boss is chewing the carpet and biting anyone coming within range - not very easy on the ulcers : You think Brit customer service is doubtful, you should try the Germans (based on experiences within my own German owned co!) GT6Steve
Steve, A little off topic but was does shipping run you on a GRP bonnet from the UK? Finally got a response from England. Honeybourne moldings has offered their MK3 bonnet at 187 Pounds and 519 Pounds for Sea freight door to door. Not sure what kind of boat is bringing it to Vegas though... :-/

AlexC
Steve, You've probably been busy playing with the dyno but I was just wondering if you ever found a glass bonnet?
GT6Steve
No, I didn't think it would be worth the expense and I put the car up for sale instead.
