michaeljf Posted May 27, 2019 Posted May 27, 2019 Hello,Thank you Nick. I live about 380 km's south of Sydney at Batemans Bay.Used to live over Andy T's way but moved home. Where did you see the bit about the 2" SU's? John, Who makes a reasonably priced one that works! One reason I have been trying to get back in contact with Jon Wood as his sounded just like what i needed. Regards,Michael.
JohnD Posted May 27, 2019 Author Posted May 27, 2019 (edited) Rimmers sell reconditioned dampers. The Damper Doctor in America rebuilds your own: https://www.damperdoctor.com/ Or, the Damper Due in New Zealand: http://damperdudenz.tripod.com/ I don't know anyone who rebuilds them in the UK! What's the problem with yours? John PS I don't get Triumph World - I'd be most interested in reading Jon Wood's article! J. Edited May 27, 2019 by JohnD
Nick Jones Posted May 27, 2019 Posted May 27, 2019 The thing about the 2.5 is the lack of overlap between big ends and mains which makes it somewhat whippy in spite of its substantial weight. Both these factors mean that its primary torsional resonance isn’t that far above 6k and if you want be revving up there you either have to accept a short fatigue life (possibly very short), cough up for a decent damper (the factory one is inadequate whatever it’s condition) or dig really deep and go steel. Pretty serious head and induction work also needed to get the thing to rev up there in the first place. Can be done. There are some very high rpm/big bhp TR6s out there but the engine builds will have been big bucks.
