TIMSGT6 X 5 Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 Going to a 13" diameter steering wheel frpm the original 15 1/2" on my Driver GT6 (MK 11 +). I need the extra clearance it provides as my wife needs to have the seat way up (5'2") to drive. Which hub does the MK11 take , the 6 hole 3 3/4" pattern or the nine hole, I know they changed that and the spline size if I recall at some point in production. How much harder is this going to steer as far as strength needed for input? She is rather slight, the wife ,well and the car I suppose at that. Cheers Tim
motov8id Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 i don't like the look of the 13" wheel . Too small. The only time the wheel diameter is a factor is when parking.
mark spit Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 I've got a 13" wheel on my Spitfire, with 175 section tyres, parking speeds do need rather a hefty pull to move, once going no problems, can't help on the splines. Mark
Nick B. Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 I have a 13" steering wheel. I need the small wheel in order to fit the car. No problems with parking or otherwise. Feels fine - though om 165 tyres. Cheers Nick
mattius Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 i have the 13" wheel, when the car is moving its fine, when stationary or slow speeds it is hard work, given she is female she wont park properly anyway so you have no worries.
TIMSGT6 X 5 Posted January 24, 2011 Author Posted January 24, 2011 Well Matt, I shall not share that with her :X, she is a good driver, drives a full size delivery for Canada Post, and did very well at racing school with her 4.6L Mustang 5 speed. After the hours of stripping the car , the soon to come $2,500 paint job and reassemble, parking better be done in near empty lots. If you are in Edinburgh near Livingston do you ever stop at Dan the Hotdog Mans vending cart outside Carmondeans Library, he is somewhat of a legend round there.
mattius Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 i very rarely appear in livingston but i will keep my eyes peeled. no offence intended.
TIMSGT6 X 5 Posted January 25, 2011 Author Posted January 25, 2011 Hey Matt, Joking, frivolity and general sarcasm always accepted round these parts, I actually did show her the post, she laughed and rolled her eyes : it's her brother Frodo you have to look out for.
rlubikey Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 So, electric power steering. (That's "electric" pronounced "Vauxhall Corsa") - ON at parking speeds, OFF rest of the time. Richard
spitfire6 Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 i don't like the look of the 13" wheel . Too small. The only time the wheel diameter is a factor is when parking. Hi, I have a 13" flat bottomed wheel as anything bigger hits my gut. Alas, I have eaten too many pies. Cheers, Iain
Oracle Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 12" for me, anything bigger is a nightmare, all elbows and pointless arm waving.
JohnD Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 12" for me, anything bigger is a nightmare, all elbows and pointless arm waving. I had a ten inch shirt button on the Vitesse once. It was ridiculous. John
TIMSGT6 X 5 Posted February 21, 2011 Author Posted February 21, 2011 I have the wheel, need the boss for the small spline and 6 hole mount, the search is on! Cheers
Oracle Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 I think 12" is the smallest sensible size 13" min for GT6.
CHRIS211083 Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 I have an 11".... firstly it came with the car secondly it allows me to fit in and thirdly strength isnt an issue however at parking i have to use both hands to turn. Chris.
thebrookster Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 I have to admit that Chris's steering wheel is not all that hard to use either, at least I never actually noticed that I had to put any extra effort into it?
mattius Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 i have an 11" and a 14", the only time i've ever noticed the 11" being any kinda issue is parking is harder. To that fact i just dont park.
TIMSGT6 X 5 Posted April 9, 2011 Author Posted April 9, 2011 I have a 13" and 14" , the 14 being shallower, allows the wife to pull the seat up closer. So the street car gets the 14, the track car the 13" as only I will be driving it.
AlexC Posted April 14, 2011 Posted April 14, 2011 I have a Peco 11" and it's no problem in the Spit. I'm no muscle man either. Just keep the car rolling and you have no problems parking.
