I'll be interested to see after your first event whether your conclusion is "cool but never again" or "already planning for the next one" - time will tell!

At the moment I couldn’t say ?

but I’m having an easy ride as shaun the car owner is doing the car prep and I recognise it’s a 3 person team which makes it easier !

but fancied doing it for a few years but my 3a on webers would be a step too far.

Although I push back on the pollution bit. A thousand miles in a car who's initial carbon price was not only 30-40 years ago but is essentially trivial compared a modern of any description and particularly an EV

I agree. Certainly I’m working on extracting the max from the embedded carbon of a certain Audi!

However, the powers that be are working to make this kind of activity socially unacceptable and it’s beginning to cut through with some.

Wimp! :tongue::ninja::biggrin:

Actually, I very much agree. Probably even two steps too far. Though there are plenty who have done the event in TR3s, even early Spitfires, Atlas van (Atlas pickup entered this year) and pre-war cars.  All depends on how much you enjoy suffering - Vitesse convertible was too tough for me….. so I really am a wimp

I've only ever done it in three man teams, and my last was ?twenty? years ago.  But when there was an appeal to join another three-team I couldn't resist.  So I'm the anchor-man with Mark and Pete in Team Poo!    Poo is Pete's triumph 2000, in that light brown colour so strangely popular in the '70s.

They've gone it before, many times, so I'm looking forward to following then round, as it were!

I am marshalling at the start, so hope to see you there.

I polished the Herald and lent it to the village Flower show as they wanted  a display of old cars in front of the local manor house.

Strange mix of cars from mini clubman estate to a Rolls and custom American thing. I dont think any of them were used very much apart from going to shows.
Visitors were amazed that the Herald its used regularly and driven all round the UK and Europe! I think now its a tiny minority of classic car owners who use and abuse there cars. This forum users are a bit of an exception!

Definitely only a small minority that still use them “properly”. Have this conversation quite regularly, especially while waiting for the ferry….. It’s a car…. Made to travel!

Does anyone have any “sideways” forum branded stickers ?

or a graphics temple that a sticker maker would understand to make some.

preferably just the letters/design cut out rather than a coloured sticker.
thinking for my TR and the acclaim ?!

I ordered a load of (not sideways) stickers from stickersinternational.co.uk not too long ago - price of 100s on clear and cut-to-shape was pretty reasonable. IIRC White on clear was an option.

How big do you want them?

80x30mm 60 stickers, white on clear comes out at £20+nonsense

200x60mm 20 stickers, white on clear comes out at £20+nonsense

BUT at 150x75mm in the designer scaling the image from the website, the black anti-aliasing becomes a bit much on a transparent sticker and the text starts to look pixelated. I've asked an AI to identify the font used... so see what it thinks, but no definitive conclusion yet.

Well, the countdown is well and truly begun, my RBRR weekend starts in just over 2 hours with about a 4 hour drive down to my co-driver's place in Stevenage.

Car is packed, just my bag to pack and away after tea.

Had some of these printed on A5 stickers for the car:

Good luck guys, and fingers crossed they don't cancel it as the weather is atrocious up in Scotland at the moment.

As an aside, keep an eye on traffic Scotland (that Hamish linked earlier) but don't be surprised if it is not fully up to date as we have full power outages in many areas.

There is currently a fallen tree across both lanes of the northbound A9 just before the Kessock Bridge at Inverness. There will be a diversion in place I’m sure.

There is also a tree down at Mey (near John o’ Groats) but it is passable.

By the time the participants get to Inverness the wind will have eased to 60mph westerly gusts.

There are a lot of power cuts across the southern Highlands and Lochaber.

Hope all goes well. Drive carefully folks.

Latest updates I’m seeing are not good…..

A9 Dornoch Bridge is currently closed to all vehicles. The alternative route is via Bonar Bridge and Spinningdale is still open.

The A82 between Inverness and Fort William is closed to all traffic due to fallen trees.

Just back from Wick town centre where I managed to find a sheltered spot out of the wind and rain from which to take some photos….During the hour I was there I didn’t see that many cars (will post the photos later on this morning) but I did see an Acclaim @Hamish 😎.

Quick correction: 87 cars started. 3 of those have retired so at 84 runners.

The Atlas is happy at around 55-60 but is capable of more (if you are brave/daft enough!) so should make decent progress, especially as the plan involves swapping both crew at at each stop so the actual vehicle never rests. (working as a team of 5 with 3 in a stag powered estate)

The Southeren Cross has a little more oomph that it was born with, and overdrive. Not sure how watertight to hood and sidescreens will be, I hope Dirk keeps dry.

In general there have been few reports of serious issues on the route, and I think the worst of the weather is declining slowly

Yes Clive the worst of the storm passed before midnight, gusts are currently c.60mph.
Could be a lot of rain on the journey south 🙁

When I was trying to get photos of the Triumphs I noticed a detached ridge tile. Have reported this to Police Scotland so hopefully they can get barriers on the street until it is safe to remove the ridge tile). Highland Council’s emergency phone number isn’t working 🙁.
