rogerguzzi Posted January 23 Posted January 23 Hello All Some maybe interested in one of these? I have just bought one as a spare as at that price I could soon re sell if later if needed I have one on Spitty and one on the Vitesse so a spare is not out of order for a genuine one at that price much better bet than a repro Lucas type?? Genuine Denso Alternator 12V 40A For Neuson Mustang New Holland Shepherd Selwood | eBay Roger 2
Mark Posted January 23 Posted January 23 Thanks Roger I was thinking of getting one for my Spitfire restoration project. Have a Denso on the Vitesse, but it only has two spade terminals. This has three. What goes to the P terminal or do you not use it?

flatter4 Posted January 24 Posted January 24 I have one of these awaiting fitment. One of the reasons (OK, excuses ) for not putting it on is that I need to source a plug for the ignition light wire. Does anyone have the correct reference for this - and maybe a cheap source. ...also be careful if ordering the part that Roger has referenced - one of the drawings shows a multi V pulley. This part number should have a 10mm V pulley. Worth checking with the seller. Cheers, Will.
rogerguzzi Posted January 28 Author Posted January 28 Hello All It arrived today and is the real job and they even put in a plastic Vernier Gauge which will be ok for rough sizing (I have a good quality Jap one for accurate stuff) Roger ps its only a spare and I could always sell it for the same if needed?
JumpingFrog Posted January 28 Posted January 28 Also bought one, thanks for the link Roger, can confirm it is as pictured, genuine Denso with vee pulley, and also received the plastic vernier. If you could @rogerguzzi, maybe you could describe how yours is mounted, I saw from your previous posts that you have a custom top bracket made from rod ends, is your lower mount the standard Triumph one?
rogerguzzi Posted January 28 Author Posted January 28 Hello David What car is it for as I have fitted one on Spitty and one on the Vitesse? I used these people for the rod ends and joining link (I will measure the lengths I used tomorrow and look at the engine brackets) Male Threaded Rod Ends (Metric & Imperial)) I used 8mm as they were cheaper and the bit of loose fit does not matter as the a done up tight? Roger

Hi Roger, It's going on my Herald so will be identical to your Spitfire, mostly just curious if you had to do anything to the lower mount or the spacer? The size of the turn buckle bar would be really useful to know. Both your installs look very neat! I see on the Spitfire you also made a small plate rather than use the original hole through the water pump housing? Edited January 29 by JumpingFrog
rogerguzzi Posted January 28 Author Posted January 28 Hello David I think you would find the rose joint would not fit under the vee belt and that way it all lines up nicely I will sort a few dimensions out tomorrow and the belt length A real plus is you can remove No1 plug easy now Roger
rogerguzzi Posted January 29 Author Posted January 29 Hello David These are to details of Spittys alternator fixings. The first thing I noticed is your Herald has a different mounting bracket as it was a dynamo? Looking at the parts book I do not think it would be strong enough if you just used the front hole of the bracket? As you can see the Spitfire one bolts up to the front engine plate. So unless you have a spacer between the 2 ends of the bracket it is liable to tilt/move? If you can obtain a Spitfire bracket it would be better I think? The plate at the water pump end is a piece of 3/4" x 1/4" steel with holes 1" apart(I threaded the one 8mm) The adjuster centre piece is 70mm long with left and righthand threads 8mm. The Space is 25mm dia x 33mm long with a locating bit on the front that is 0.530" to suit the hole in the engine plate that I may have enlarged to give a better location? The bolt is 10mm x 120mm I assume I opened up the bracket hole to 10mm to suit the Alternator size? The vee belt I use is SPZ1087 but you water pump and crank pulleys may be a different diameter so a different belt would be needed Roger ps I hope this helps pps I fitted the new one to make sure it works and will leave it on and keep the old one as a spare! 2
JumpingFrog Posted January 30 Posted January 30 Hi Roger, thanks again for all the details, can definitely replicate this on my car, other than the belt which like you said will be different for the small crank engine.
egret Posted January 30 Posted January 30 Is that a coolant temperature sensor for the ECU I spy there in the last photo? I've been thinking about how I get another one into my setup and that looks like a reasonably good place to drill and tap a connection.

The coolant one is on the other side and a proper one with 2 connectors and a proper plug that is to Mickey Mouse for me? I will take a photo late and show you. Roger 1
