Remap?  What that?   It's a charity that recruits engineers, and those with fewer skills (like me) to help disabled people adapt their aids to their specific requirements. It can be most rewarding work!

Recently, I repaired a leg caliper for a man who has had a leg paralysed by polio since he was a child.   His old steel caliper was for him better than the latest carbon fibre device that the protheticists had given him.    They couldnt repair his old one as they just don't have the tools to repair his old caliper, so he turned to Remap. It was a simple job to shape and weld a new ring for the top of his caliper where it bears his weight on the groin, and to reshape the support for his lower leg.   To see him walk again was very satisfying work!

But I'm not posting about Remap to tell about successes, but because it's not well known and because it will be on TV next Monday!   BBC 1, The One Show at 1900 on the 23rd September.

There are lots of engineers on Sideways and even more with my limited skill set who could help in practical ways, as well as donating to this worthwhile charity.  Please watch the One Show next Monday,  you could be  big help!
