flatter4 Posted August 3, 2024 Posted August 3, 2024 Spotted this on an auction site of many lovely things Not seen it before. Thought the team here might want to see (or already know all about it): https://www.iconicauctioneers.com/1963-triumph-formosa-120gr-rec13908-1-silverston-0824?pn=1&el=23782&pp=100
Nick Jones Posted August 3, 2024 Posted August 3, 2024 Interesting. Looks nicely done. One suspects that if the DVLA were feeling picky there could be issues. It’s obviously based on a later than ‘63 car (2L from 67 iirc) and the rear wheels look suspiciously vertical. I feel their guide price is optimistic. Can’t see anyone paying that for a fibreglass special based on a small- chassis Triumph, however nicely out together.
Hamish Posted August 3, 2024 Posted August 3, 2024 I have seen this auction and that “triumph” is attractive and done very tidily but I confess to fancying this https://www.iconicauctioneers.com/1963-triumph-tr4-rec13673-1-silverston-0824?pn=1&el=23301&pp=100 but I would love to try open wheelers for a couple seasons before I get too old and the Formula Ford lot at loton park were very welcoming https://www.iconicauctioneers.com/1968-alexis-mk15-rec13891-1-silverston-0824?pn=1&el=23759&pp=100 Have you guys done single seaters?
JohnD Posted August 3, 2024 Posted August 3, 2024 I'm looking at doing a "treat day" in one this summer. You know, a few laps with an instructor in a saloon, then out by yourself for some more. Who knows, maybe never have another chance! John
rogerguzzi Posted August 3, 2024 Posted August 3, 2024 Hello John I did it a few years ago at Mallory park! If i remember right it ws MK2 jag lap with all in then either Jag e type and DB4 then a few laps in a C or D type jag with an old guy and then I thought this racing and he was not trying!! Roger

But having seen enough folks try it takes a good couple of seasons to get properly with it. And the cost is a whole level up. Ones that come up are either bloody expensive... just expensive and poorly maintained/unreliable, or not wildly expensive but mistreated/completely unreliable. And of course you can't drive the thing on the road so you need to fork out for track hire on top of everything. And then there's the space problem...

Nick Jones Posted August 7, 2024 Posted August 7, 2024 There’s no kidding yourself that a single seater is anything other than a toy. A competition car that is also road capable feels more acceptable to me somehow…. 1
mpbarrett Posted August 8, 2024 Posted August 8, 2024 you could buy this, on FB in Cambridge, Spitfire based £2000. Not sure about the colour "This vehicle began life as a 1971 yellow Spitfire and was converted into a 'caterham' style kit car and used for hill climb events Mileage shows at 14000 but cannot be warranted 1300cc engine four speed manual Has some history mostly parts bills, has had recent battery and carb tune Runs well enough but will require recomissioning plus rear diff is noisey, exhaust loose No MOT The car has not been used for a couple of years at least and therefore should be collected on a transporter only"
Escadrille Ecosse Posted August 8, 2024 Posted August 8, 2024 That colour is certainly distinctive! And something a bit odd about the front wheels. Looks like the car has quite a list to the driver's side.
mpbarrett Posted August 8, 2024 Posted August 8, 2024 could have a hard time being raced/hill climbed. No mot history.... mike
