PaulAA Posted June 14 Posted June 14 Simon Sorry to read about the accident - best wishes for a speedy recovery. Have you considered seeking damages from the ground for being excessively unyielding? Some years ago, I was participating in one of the world's most dangerous sports - DIY. Whilst driling a hole in a steel plate secured only with my left knee and right hand (I'm LHD), the bit met resistance as it penetrated the plate and whipped it out of my grip, span it round and sliced across the top of my right hand. Shocked, I went bleating to my wife that I needed a plaster, but lunch was nearly ready and that was more important than a mere scratch. There really wasn't much blood. I couldn't quite grip my knife, which amused the children and infuriated my wife - could I just man up, please? Anyway, it transpired that I'd neatly severed both index finger tendons and had had a pretty accurate go at slicing the knuckle joint. When my infuriated wife finally took me to A&E, the surgeon who sewed it back together was so impressed with the clinical precision of the attempted amputation that we still meet for an occasional beer, where he insists on showing me his pictures of less successful attempts at self-mutilation. His current pet peeve is the electric scooter, which accounts for about five significant surgical interventions a week. Paul 1
Nick Jones Posted June 14 Posted June 14 Probably shouldn’t laugh but….. I’m afraid it did make me chuckle!

I did consider that but now the ground is threatening to counter-sue saying that I shoulder-charged it in an unprovoked assault. It's also claiming a long history of abusive behaviour...apparently it feels that I have been walking all over it for years and it feels downtroden. Legally speaking I dont think the ground has a leg to stand on. On a brighter note, I had xrays and post-operative assesment yesterday and they are happy with their handywork. They put in a plate and eleven screws so if I breakdown at the side of the road in future I know I'm carrying pleanty of spares. On a less bright note I reckon if I come off my bike in future those 11 screws represent 11 stress-raising holes in my arm. On a dismal note I've stopped taking the opiate pain relief early in the hope that I will be able to regain some concentration and get some work done. My shoulder hurts but hopefully in a day or two I might regain the ability to think straight for more than five minutes 1 2
JohnD Posted June 21 Posted June 21 Indeed so - As Einstein once said “sit with a pretty girl for an hour and it feels like a minute; sit on a hot stove for a minute and it feels like many hours. That's relativity!”
