Happy Birthday Dr JohnD

Recommended Posts

Thank you Hamish, Nick, Michael and Mark, ad the many other people who sent their good wishes!

I had a happy time with some of my family, who narrowly have escaped being April Fools by birth!

Belated greetings John.

I forgot it was April Fools day - I trust through your life you lived up to expectation.

I used to go to some powerful meetings at British Airway Engineering and although I am a December baby I could not resist being on the verge of comedy all the time.

Another belated birthday greeting, John!

My tachometer clicked over the 60 mark a couple of weeks ago, which my colleagues took full advantage of, to my detriment. At least Roger has the advantage of opting towards comedy - for some of us, it seems that being the fool is genetically pre-destined, hoho...

John,

Pretty sure your email has been hacked.

I’m getting hit with requests to send Apple gift cards on your behalf.

Might want to check (oh, and happy belated birthday.)

C.

Very belated greetings, and yes I received as well some gift card requests from John‘s e-mail.

So have I. Mine went to junk mail, which was odd. Or so I thought. (I wasn't asked for anything, except if I was free atm)

Same here - a request to contact him at 12.27 this afternoon, which went into in spam.

He may not have access to his computer profile - has anybody sent him a text/WhatsApp message?

Just spoken to John on the phone. His email (BT) had been hacked. This is now resolved with BT.

His Sideways account is also hacked. So he can see posts, but not login to respond. He thanks you all for alerting him!
You should also ignore emails from John-r-davies@hotmail.com as this is a creation of the hackers.

Excellent Nick, I'm glad someone managed to speak with him.

Hopefully all gets fixed soon.

Good man. Does he know how - something he did or was he taken by surprise? Good for him to know and prevent it happening again...

Teeth of the Gods!   This has been an apocalyptic day!

First, my thanks to all who contacted me by other means, to warn me of the hack, especially Craig in Oz, who contacted Nick Jones to ask him to ring me, as Craig knew I had been hacked!   Wow!    The man's a divinator, or else a very savvy computerologist!

Yes, I was hacked.    They had got into  my account at BT, changed the recorded email address to one at Hotmail, AND the mobile number in the file, so I wasn't able to get into my emails and could not receive the security checks they send you, either by email or text, so couldn't reset my password.     THEN, they had set the account to email everyone on my list with scamming messages, AND to forward any messages to them!    Frightening!

After what seemed like hours texting 'experts' on the  BT webpage, I persuaded them to give me the BT Email Team's phone number.  What a difference!  These people know what they are doing, and what the scammers had done, but most importantly how to fix it.  Which is now done, and I have my own email address back, with a new password, of course.  If this ever happens to you, do not bother with the webpage 'advisors', go straight to

0808 100 6778!

But the damage wasn't limited to that.      The scammers or some handshaking with BT had changed my email address here on Sideways to the Hotmail one, so I couldn't get in, but Nick has reversed that, and he or Craig sent me a "Change your Password" link, so that I'm back, Brothers and Sisters!   Hallelujah!   Facebook still is a closed book to me, but that is probably a blessing!   But I must  now  change ALL my passwords!    Keyboard cramp looms!

My deep thanks to everyone in Triumph and especially here, who contacted me out of concern and helped me out of the hole.

John

John

Do you know how they hacked your email in the first place - did you get caught by a scam or download something untoward? Just so that you know which door to keep closed in the future...

Do you have malwarebytes installed? ;)

Thank you, Paul!  I was calling down the Wrath of the Gods on BT for having let their system be hacked.  But another computer wrangler has told me that almost certainly the   scammers got my details from me, and then  went into BT's system in pursuit of their prey. But I have no idea.  I'm not a bottom feeder on the 'Net and can't imagine where I might have let them in.  I run Norton Ultimate as my firewall, but will let something else loose in my PC as well.  I've used "Cr*pCleaner" before in a similar situatuion.

Any recommendations?

Glad got it sorted John.

I managed to stretch out my conversation with scammers to about 15 emails over 6 hours.

They we're after a 200 quid Applgift card to pass onto "a friends wife who baling leukemia".

They seemed quite frustrated with my photo taking skills

Try as I could, I just didn't seem to be able to get it right for them...

It wasn't just me that did that, then

In my case it was a £200 Amazon voucher, but I claimed it made Amazon shut down my account. Had to call it quits due to being on discharge watches in US, so it only lasted a couple of hours.

It was the same leukemia sob story though........
