Fast Driver! (6/10)

  1. Nice looking device. It would be the better option to use a micro, but sometimes the KIS principal is best. The analogue nature of the sensor I have will not require any programming skills. Have you found any info on interfacing the unit?
  2. Just as a footnote on this mod, it is just as easy to fit the resistor externally to the motor. The resistor could hang in the loom covered with some shrink sleeve, near the wiper switch.
  3. I should add, the diagram for the two speed wiper is shown for negative earth vehicles. If you have retained the original positive earth setup then the diode must be reversed. The diode is just a 200V PIV 6A, the resistor is a 10W 10 Ohm.
  4. I had brain fog, drew the cct in pen then thought I'll do a nice cad cct! The one I have gone for sticks to the screen behind the interior mirror. Nissan Micra, Renault Megane sensor. Uses IR to sense rain by absorption of reflected IR.
  5. Using the two speed wiper switch with park function, this is how it is wired. The plan will be to use the park position for intermittent wipe function.
  6. i have bought for £6 off Ebay a IR sensor made by Hella, I will see if I can use it in some auto wipe system. The sensor is not on a buss system, there is a control module that reads the IR level to detect rain.
  7. Been looking at rain sensors, there are several ways it is done. The most common seems to be the IR sensor, Infrared light is beamed at the windscreen at 45 degrees. The reflected IR is sensed by a IR diode, when rain is on the screen the IR gets defused. I might look into using one for an intermittent wipe function.
  8. I have two steel wheel left out of four I bought earlier this year, they are in fail condition. £25 each or £40 the pair. I also have one 3.5J Herald plain steel wheel. £15.
  9. I had a quick look in the electronic mag archives and there are several designs. There also is a kit (https://quasarelectronics.co.uk/Item/quasar-kit-8093-intermittent-windscreen-wiper-controller). The three way headlight switch (https://www.autoelectricalpartsuk.co.uk/automotive-switches/automotive-rotary-switch/headlamp-rotary-horn-push-064570) could be used so that the third position was intermittent wipe function, with the added bonus of an electric washer.
  10. Whether a modern rain sensor could be used with a timer circuit to offer an intermittent wipe function could be looked into.
  11. A simple 555 timer and power switching device should do it, using the self park lead just pull it to ground. There were loads of circuits in the 1970 electronic mags. These are the cheapest switch options I have found. https://www.autoelectricalpartsuk.co.uk/automotive-switches/automotive-rotary-switch/wiperblade-control-switch-064650 https://www.autoelectricalpartsuk.co.uk/automotive-switches/automotive-rotary-switch/headlamp-rotary-horn-push-064570 The second option will work with the herald / Vitesse knob, you will need to move the locking hole back about 3mm.
  12. No problem, I was surprised at how easy it was! Again these diagrams were from the MGA guru, both switches closed is slow, slow switch open is fast. A simple Off On, On switch would work, with a diode to provide the armature return path. Polarity subject to the cars battery polarity.
  13. Hi Roger, yes I'm well up on that. Did my Vitesse years ago. I was told at the time by the only place I could find fixing these motors, the field coil was special on two speeds with a extra winding. I never looked into it as I had plenty else to keep me busy!
