  1. As an “early adopter” of Smart Meters I can confirm they are a disappointing proposition once the initial excitement of seeing how much gas and electricity your using and seeing how little effect turning things off or down appears to make. Then you realise your daughter ignores it totally and then realise the house is cold because your wife turns the heating off to save money. Then the remote display in the house goes radio rental and starts telling you your using £300 per day of gas which you obviously haven’t because the house hasn’t been replaced with a 300ft crater after the explosion. So they replace that and all’s well... until it goes mad again... and they replace it again... and then it goes mad again so it goes in the bin and isn’t replaced. Then you switch providers to get a better deal even though it’s the same gas and electricity that it ever was but cheaper. And the meters stop being smart because they are generation one and can’t talk to other providers. Why’s that? I never got an answer so now once a month I wander outside to take meter readings to upload to whoever is selling me the same gas and electricity that others did... but cheaper! No I can’t be bothered to have a generation two meter. Waste of time and the planets resources to replace something that essentially still does what it always did but has just lost the ability to talk to a network! I wouldn’t bother again. Seemed like a good idea at the beginning.
  2. Finally got round to swapping the wheel studs on the back to the M12 this afternoon... did the fronts with no drama a couple of weeks ago. Rogers patented nut and spacer tube worked a treat. The old rear studs were much esier to knock out than the fronts. Drums back on all good. First wheel on... wont go on... what have I done, is a stud wonky... cant be as the drums are on... bit of head scratching. Check the wheels, holes for the studs are smaller. I had a spare stud, had to double double check. Definitely wont go in. Largest drill bit I have at home is 12mm. Thanks again to Roger for the loan of a couple of drill bits to open the hole out a fraction. 31/64" did the trick Drama over, wheels on car and back in the garage.
  3. The thought of using a passport causes a nosebleed Is this the event in mid May?
  4. Scary how small old cars are. Had to actually go to the office today so an excuse to get the Spit out.
  5. A fair observation... I was fighting a loosing battle with a teenager. Having a couple of additional tiny speakers in the small glovebox each side helps a little. I need to spend a little time setting the balance of front to back but it will do for me and keeps all at home happy.
  6. Seams to work pretty well tucked up by the fuel tank. Bluetooth to the phone seems fine. Left the old stereo in place as a decoy and nod to the old pre Bluetooth days.
  7. in the pursuit of keeping a teeanger happy I added a hidden bluetooth amp in the boot and wired up four small speakers as apparently a sharp radio /cassette from 1976 wasnt cutting the mustard. Hidden behind the trim panel in the boot. Works really well. Spotify and the Spitfire are now friends... Anything for a quiet life :)
  8. Cake and coffee sounds good to me. Just give me some notice so I can try and book time off work.
  9. three times now for me... and it does not get any more pleasant when you know what is about to happen
  10. I imagine the limit to the warranty might be installation in a car
  11. Never had a chance to fit them. Fell asleep in front of the rugby yesterday. Needed to do a long run today to prove to myself I can still run a good distance post operation as I am supposed to be racing on the 13 March. I am sure the event will be cancelled but I need to ensure I am ready so needs must. Covered 10 miles today with no drama so looking good to at least get round the event without issue. Then having a shopping trip sprung on me and a trip to the father in laws with the purchased supplies has wrecked the day. Will get done during the week. I will be ready! Thanks for the studs, hope the wine is OK?
  12. Zetecsit reminded me of turning a land rover into a very top heavy Land Rover. Not sure what the weight was but it wasnt a great idea - very challenging round islands but I think a coffee table in a Spitfire is an equally special effort.
  13. Had to go shopping for some bits needed for dinner. Cant get much in the boot... Liking how she's looking now. Just need the summer to hurry up.
  14. Hi Roger, the studs I bought for the front measured in at 50mm so similar length and I took 6mm off to give the max engagement of the spline tool inside the nut. If I was taking 7mm or so off the studs for the back wheels that's still fine I think as its similar to the front. The overall threaded length inside the nuts is about 24mm.
  15. Yeah, the thought of pulling the rear hubs off doesn't make me excited... I need to do some careful measuring I think. I took 6mm off the length of the front studs. That gives me the full length of thread in the nut engaged and full insertion of the spline drive to tighten the nuts so I dont mind doing a little cutting as long as it make sense to do so.
  16. Nice Timken wheel bearings to replace the dubious power range bearings. Refurbed callipers fitted with stainless pistons. M12 studs on the front fitted. Mintex M1144 pads so much better than the greenstuff pads. Greenstuff pads in the bin! Also extra shims fitted to the lower suspension arms. Need to remeasure to see why difference they make. Put my adjustable GAZ dampers on the back. Perhaps sort the toe out next weekend. Need to sort the bigger wheel studs out for the rear at some point as well. @rogerguzzii will have to call round at some point to pick up spare wheel studs from you if that’s ok.
  17. Thanks Nick, it looked wrong to me. It’s crazy when stuff is wrong. Will try the tricks you advise!
  18. Hi all Can you give me a clue which way the felt oilseal goes in the front hub. Found the felt is currently onto the bearing side as per photo. Don't know why but in my head I feel like the felt should face in, towards the trunnion. Sorry for the dub question.
  19. So thats an extra 10hp just by the application of red paint. New stainless pistons as well. Looking forwards to putting it all back together at the weekend.
  20. I did try and contact James via eBay and didn't have any luck, shame but if they don't sell in numbers then never mind. Going to reassemble my hubs perhaps at the weekend and live without them. Timken bearings should be an improvement on the current Power Range bearings... I hope
  21. Staff within the hospital were brilliant given all the stress the NHS currently has. The socket side is 12mm deep and I would have about 8mm of engagement. Its a 10 point star about 14mm across. If I lopped the 4mm off that would have the stud flush with the end of the internal thread of the nut. Shouldn't be an issue as there is about 24mm of thread. Would only cut them down to be flush. Just wondering if its making work for the sake of making work...
  22. Feeling back to normal or as normal as I ever was. Tuner nuts arrived yesterday. With the extra 10mm of stud length for the Freelander studs then the stud will take up about 1/3rd of the available space to insert the spline drive key. Thinking about whipping 4mm or so of the length of the stud so as to get the full engagement of the key. Is this worthwhile doing?
  23. Thanks Roger... but at least a bottle of the usual!
