Jim
Howdy folks, wonder if any gurus can diagnose what's wrong here... This is the Drivers side rear tyre of my Focus, with the bald bit being the inside, the grippier bit the outer. The opposing tyre looks similar, and will be the same in about 2k miles. My thoughts were simple tracking/wheel alignment, and the drivers side is worse due to me 'Scandinavian flicking' it around roundabouts...? spitNL
It has control blade/twist beam rear axle, hasn't it? That hasn't got much alignment options. How are your tire pressures? 2k miles? Camber looks normal when you look at the car? drivers side is worse due to me 'Scandinavian flicking' it around roundabouts...? That can't help with the life expectancy. ;D But still 2k?! Jim
Sorry, My post was ambiguous. That is approx 10k of use. The Passenger side is about 2k miles away from looking like this one also. I don't really scandinavian flick I can't! But I wondered if roundabouts accelerate the wear on one side...?
DaveNotSoSideways
Hasnt that delaminated?
sorbs
Most newish cars have plenty of adjstment in the rear suspension. It'd be worth getting a 4 wheel alignment check. Check for worn bushes etc. too. My Vectra's front tyres ended up just like that when the tracking was miles out. Ate a set of tyres in 5000 miles. DaveNotSoSideways
Noticed my mothers clio is prone to excessive wear on the outside of the rear tyres too. I just put it down to the fact my mother is like schumacher.

Mother Teresa
Hi Jim . You've bought a cut'n'shut- the back half is an Austin Maxi. I'd go with alignment- how does the car handle?
Jim
Brucey! Nae so bad really. Just like it always has done. But I've had it 24 months and only changed the oil. So about time it sucked some wonga out my wallet! Alignment it is. Say Davey, any chance I could be permitted to see some of these Crazy Spitfire videos? Nick Jones
Bit of googling suggests that this is not unknown on Foci. Rear tracking is adjustable apparently although it is also mentioned that the factory figures have a wide tolerance. Also comments that tired bushes can give trouble and may allow reasonable tracking figures at rest (ie on the alignment rig) but still allow the wheels to "part" when the car is moving. Tracking check first I'd say. Must have a look at the management Focus and make sure that is not doing the same........ She usually wears out the front left due to aggressive roundabout technique ;D Nick

spitNL
If you can't get the tracking done, you can always try to diy. Maybe better to do it with a bit less speed than this guy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3x6zp1t_f38

hoffman900
A TON of toe-in or out will do that. Though I can't see any feathering on the tread to tell which it is. With that much wear that quickly, you could probably almost see what it is just by eyeballing it.
