Probably true, sadly.  The the stats will tell all in about 3 weeks.....

Car looks good.  Presumably a historic plate?  Not sure I approve of the vintage car outline on the plate though....

I thank you. Yes, it's on historic plates and the rinky-dinky car outline is part of the package, unfortunately.

Amusingly, the registration process means that this product of 1970s Coventry is now listed as 'an important work of Polish art' for which a permit is required to drive across the border and an export licence will be necessary if I ever want to sell it abroad.

Lets hit the beach!  Seatown, Dorset......

Father and Son taking their partners to the seaside in the cars they built.

Legitimately awesome.

Took the Vitesse out for a road test this pm, stopped for fuel.    Guy my age comes up, is very nice about it.   I say, You're going to tell me you had one in the day!    No, but my dad did!   He can't have been as old as he looked, or I'm older than I feel!

As long as you keep feeling younger than you are you're probably ahead of the game

There's dog in the old life yet Roger. If John is just a kid I'm a babe in arms as I'm just 60 in a couple of weeks time. You give me hope.

So yesterday in celebration of a slight easing of the Scottish lockdown and the cycling Monument that is today's Tour of Flanders I was out for a bike ride round the lanes of Lanarkshire. Bit cold at the start but a beautiful day. Stupidly hilly round those parts but I managed to keep up with the young boys, even if like Roger's Spitty I was a bit hot under the collar at the top of some of the hills.

Very good Colin. Consider me impressed

I reckon you would qualify as what my completely cycling obsessed younger son would call a “scary old geezer”! That is a greybeard who the young blades are quite sure they should be able to drop..... but can’t

I was thinking I might go out on my bike this afternoon but I might have to have a lie down instead....

Hello Nick

I remember an old Doctor saying when ever he feels like exercise goes and has a lie down in a dark room sound like sensible advice to me!

I did go out. Conditions were too perfect to pass it up. Only 15 moles though.....:ninja:

Obviously moles=miles. Only something as cretinous as iPhone auto scramble would “correct” a perfectly good word:mad:

Sure the moles were almost as good as the miles

Everyone starts young. There's nothing clever or skillful about that. It's getting to be old that takes the effort, and a bit of luck  (as per Nick's strapline) so You seem pt be getting the hang of it Pete

Haha! Thanks Colin that's a very good point, I'll recycle it for the youngsters at work

The time doesn't bother me, however the 127 miles sure does! My a**e hurts just thinking about it!

@John D, my happy returns to you as well! I have to say, having met you in the flesh, as you might say, you certainly come across a lot younger than that!

Cycling long distances is as much to do with your mind and determination as it is how strong and fit you are. Oh... and also how good your saddle is and how much Sudocream you have with you.

Before a "significant" birthday loomed, I decided to do a solo unsupported Le-Jog ride. It was something I wanted to do for ages and I wasn't getting any younger.  It took me 13 days, 987 miles. Shortest day was 45 miles (Cornwall hills), longest was 118 miles (A9 in Scotland) and I slept in B&Bs and Travelodges. When I got to JOG I felt as though I could have turned round and ridden back home. I'd lost a stone and a half in weight and felt as fit as a fiddle.

I did raise a good amount of money for my efforts which went to our local Air Ambulance, who played a big part in saving my son's life a year or so earlier.

My cycling now is just pootling around the local lanes.

This.

And resisting the temptation to chase the youngsters up the hills. Although legs still feeling that today a bit.

Impressive ride that especially as it sounds like you did it unsupported.

Do yesterday I got to deliver the Spitfire, which has been over-wintering in Somerset, down the road a bit to Devon.  Senior Management followed in the Vitesse (there was some minor grousing about the weight of the steering).

Spitty delivered to its keeper. Pity I hadn’t pushed the dipstick quite fully home meaning it had managed to make a bit of a mess by blowing oil out of the gap.... oops:whistling:

Then some Devon lanes in convoy and...... a pub lunch...... a very excellent one too even without the novelty value, even if the wind was a bit on the sharp side.  Managed to get rather sunburned.

Don’t seem to have taken any pics . Sorry. Must try harder!

A bit belated but Sunday, thanks to the generosity of John D donating his pit crew passes, Chris and I got to go to a race meeting.

Travelled up to Thruxton in the GT6 in bright sunshine (was not warm though) and gained entry without question.  We then did a couple of laps of the paddock area looking for a certain green Vitesse (which wasn't there because it was already in the assembly area) before parking up and trying again on foot.  Didn't take long to track John down - useful things mobile phones!

Atmosphere was nicely normal in many respects, though plenty of masks in evidence.  Was quiet when we arrived due to being the "church break", but as soon as that was over, John's group, the "Swinging Sixties" was out to practice.  I seem to have got out of the habit of taking photos so most of these were taken by Chris, whose camera work is definitely improving.

So JOhn went out.... and for 3 or 4 laps seemed to be going very well (well, 160 bhp is enough to hustle a Vitesse along pretty well!) in spite of a known gearbox issue (more power brings new problems!).

SoSs.jpg

Then he stopped coming round...... uh oh.....  So we went and found him, just rolled in from the pitlane and pushed him back to his paddock spot.  Not the anticipated gearbox problem but engine problems now.  I'll let John tell the story when he's ready, but no more action this day.....

Very few other Triumphs present.....

TR6 1s.jpg

Just a nice TR6 in John's series (and class)......

P1030245[1].jpg

And this Sprint in a different series.

Also in John's series and the outright winner of the race....

P1030180[1].jpg

This wee monster. A Griffith complete with very angry sounding 4.7L V8.  Think he lapped most of the field.  Reckon he was praying pretty hard for the rain to hold off too, looked like it had potential to be a handful even in the dry!

P1030207[1].jpg

Two more in John's series with the 240Z being the winner of his class.  Also a small infestation of Minis, a A40, various Midgets, a couple more Alfas, a Lotus Cortina and a couple of BMW 2002s.  Even a Mini Marcos and a Marcos 1800.  Really nice, eclectic collection of machinery, though must leave you wondering a bit on who you are really racing!

Speaking of eclectic.... in another series

P1030255[1].jpg

E30s, Porsche 924 & 944 and an Aston DB5......

Plus another Marcos, various Ginettas, a pack of Mk1 & mk2 Escorts and plenty else I've forgotten

Although there were some very posh "Big Rig" support vehicles, the Aston boys were roughing it.  Like their style....

IMG_5824s.jpg

... looked like they were trying properly too!

P1030236[1].jpg

Couple of others form the pits

IMG_5832s.jpg

Though this one was just visiting

IMG_5833s.jpg

So we had a nice day out.... John.... not quite so much.  No doubt he'll get it sorted though!

Double bollocks!   (we've all been there, gentlemen!)     I have several volunteering shifts this week, so garage time is limited , the garden needs some attention too at this time of year, and somehow, not on track, I've ricked my back, so progress slow.   Tanaks for thr report, Nick, your calming knowledgable presence was most valuable!

Post mortem report asap!

Sorry to hear that John. Hopefully the domestic, bodily and vehicle related ailments can be overcome. Look forward to the report!

Good though to hear you had some friendly support there.
