Alternative chain tensioner?

Recommended Posts

Some find that the spring leaf chain tensioner on all the postwar, preDolomite engines is inadequate, or modern repro vesrions are.

I notice that the Dolomite had a nylon block tensioner, 'powered' by a coil spring.  It was featured on the Dolomite Facebook page recently, where Alan Lynch found that the same part was shared by a Ferguson tractor (!).   See: https://old20tractorparts.com/ferguson-fe35-23c-parts/548-timing-chain-tensioner-1210120.html   But I see the same part for sale for a third of the price on ebay: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Triumph-TR7-STAG-TIMING-CHAIN-TENSIONER-151089-DOLOMITE-1850/233515872174?fits=Model%3ADolomite&hash=item365ea16fae:g:GIkAAOSwYyZdg35H!

Timing Chain Tensioner

That block might fit inside the Timing cover, onto threaded holes in the front enegine plate?
