Wish Me Luck as you Wave Me Goodbye

Hello All

Well  that's it we are all packed and ready to go to India to see the hill railways etc.

We have been taking D3 @ 5000iu a day for 18 months and have upped it to 1000iu now!

We have the bung up tablets and the incontinent pants as well (So what can go wrong?????????????)

I suppose the plane could crash especially the internal Indian ones or the trains fall down the mountain or boiler blow up while I am looking at it!

Not sure it is any worse than driving 40+++ year old cars in modern traffic that seem not to see us(especially Spitty must be the Bright Orange? )

All being well I will post photos on here of our escapades (perhaps not the Deli Belly ones?)

This is the trip(same trip that just next years tour he only does one a year)

Hope all goes to plan - and enjoy!

The odd pic would be good, especially as we’ve had to cancel our Sicily hols and need cheering up!

Hello All

We are here after 2 flights via Dubai at 9am local time at hotel.

We had a few hours sleep then went for walk about!

It was about 25degs and humid and bloody busy!

We had forgot how manic it is and we went to find a cash point but gave up as there were so many people waiting etc

The room is the usual poor quality with no view just the Howrah Bridge!

Off on a private tram ride tomorrow and walk about how the hell the guide is going to keep 30 of us together?

We came back to the hotel and have fort off the corona pop virus by drinking 2  x 650cc bottles of Kingfisher beer at 7.2% as the alchohol cleanser?

Well..... I am quite frankly amazed that the tour company went ahead with this given the prevailing tendencies to extreme (excessive?) caution - but have fun as you are there

Looks like you got there just in time! Announced today....

"India has announced that all visas, barring a select few categories, will be suspended from Friday for a month in order to halt the spread of Covid-19. Visa free travel afforded to overseas citizens of the country has also been suspended until 15 April."

Hello All

No coughs etc at the moment from any of the group just the usual deli belly etc

We are in Siliguri and been on our first steam train with a meal on the train!

It had minor issuses and stopped twice but the red hot cinders you could see coming out of the chimney was a site to see(it had gone dark as it was a late trip)

We do the same trip tomorrow but a bit further up the to Tindharia.

A few photos from today

Great pics, Roger!  The last two could be Percy the Small Engine, if they were in green!

Great pictures.
The first engine has the coal in front of the foot plate, how did they get the coal in the fire?
Is this the Darjeeling line, if so whats the tea like :)

Lovely pictures, keep them coming!
don't think I would like to be the guy seating on the coal heap who seems to be breaking up the coal into small bits. I assume there are no low bridges or tunnels on the route....

The Locomotives (not engines, thank you John..)  are a strange design, looks like they built it and then decided they needed more water, hence the saddle tank, and then realise there was nowhere for the coal so added a box in front of the driver! But I expect there are more sensible reasons....
