Temporary Petrol Tank

Recommended Posts

Hello All

I thought is about time I got our Mk2 Vitesse going!

So after fitting a new master cylinder(seized!) I needed to put petrol in it but rather than put some in the tank(in case it leaks or is dirty)

I thought I know I will use a small oil can with a tap on it I made up about 55 Years ago!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So here it is in operation and it did the trick.

Talk about never throwing things away?

Roger

ps She started up straight away after I spun it for a while to get the oil around before I turned on the petrol and primed the cab's

A (running) friend did the Mongal rally this year, in a 2CV. They did the last few days with a petrol can on the roof as the fuel pump packed up.

Hello All

To be honest I made that up when I wanted to paint my motorcycle tank and rode to work for a few days with it strapped to the top frame tube!

But I have used it several times over the years on motorcycles when I want to start the engine but not put the tank on!

When I built Silverback, I had endless problems with fuelling.    The delivery pressure to the pumps from the flat tank under the load platform was suspected, and I experimented with temporary tanks at various heights.   EG

Turned out the problem was not at that end at all, but the other!    Kinked choke cable to Metering unit was keeping it very rich!
