Sandm Triumph Lincs . TR's Liberated from them !

Recommended Posts

Having collected my car at my request in December,  I still have no news as to whether I can cut my losses and Totally dismantle again, in order to acertain, what I have to do to commence the Restoration again.

Someone is dragging their heels and it isn't me.....it's been a nightmare of a Car Experience and i urge any of you to diligently check a garage before you  commit to them,  don't ever give them "The benefit of the doubt "  It doesn't work  !!

Maybe that the way to do it Scooter,

I gave a new and recommended  company a chance , and it didn't work at all, so did many others.

The TR Register and various well known members pushed them forward, he even became the Technical adviser,  but was soon kicked out of that Job too....

I live to regret this....

Having seen a close family member hand over a 1936 Rover (timber framed) to a so called specialist (no longer trading, not connected to the businesses mentioned in this thread) and get back what was essentially scrap and paid out thousands for the "privilege" I have some appreciation of how heart breaking this sort of thing can be. My sympathies to anyone who finds themselves in this unfortunate situation.

Hi There Mr Spam, it's definitely happening out there as we speak, I am sorry to hear of your Family Member's Experience.

Unscrupulous People have jumped on the Classic Car Band Wagon and used it as a pathway to make a quick Buck !!

In the Case of Sandmtriumph in Lincolnshire,  they have Set out from the very beginning to make as much money out of each Customer (victim) in what ever way they possibly can....and have Systematically  done just that.  We are all now fighting the Battle to get back Cars and Parts and Money !!

Folks,

I've been on the road while this thread was brewing, and have only just had a chance to have a decent read.

Sideways offers a lot more freedom in what you can post than many other sites, but even we have some limitations.

Yes, you can rant.  Yes, you can outline actual experiences.

But...

You can't libel anyone, or accuse them of illegal actions without offering up proof.  If you do, we'll be forced to moderate your posts.  We do this to protect both ourselves, (aka me, 'cos it's my name on the door here), but also to protect you - there are plenty of examples out there of posters on forums being sued.

So rant away, but don't say anything you wouldn't say in front of a judge...

Thankyou Craig, for the heads up..very kind of you.

This is in Solicitors hands,  so if anyone would like proof, there are plenty of people happy to back this up.

Happy Driving,

Conrad.

If this were a criminal case, wouldn't it be sub judice and no one would be able to discuss it in public?

If it will go to a civil case, then the court will decvide what is fact and what is allegation.   Now that our friends here have said their piece, won't it be better to keep schtum, so that mediation can progress, becasue that is almost always cheaper than a court appearance?   My tiny experience was when my insurers were sued by another for the costs of what should have been tit-for-tat incident.    After one appearance, or rather non-appearance by the other firm's barrister, the Small Claims Court judge told both companies that the court costs and the fine he would impose for non-apearance were already more than the repair costs for both cars (in my case £3000).    He suggested that they shosuld settle out of court.   They didn't, my side won and the other was landed with ALL the costs.   So don't let it get to court!

Hello GT6MK3 and JohnD,

Thank you both for chipping in on this one - appreciated.

Your concerns and postulations are well understood and due regard would be given . . . . .  in normal circumstances.

However, these are far from normal circumstances; indeed over some time it has grown to become an alarming issue in both the TR world and also further afield.

As to your point regarding slander/libel, this is always at the forefront of peoples minds when you see the celebrity spats every week and yes of course it should be a worry. . . . in normal circumstances. However, slander and libel arise when people are not telling the truth. In this instance, an overwhelming catalogue of truth has been established, and importantly for people here, it is based upon recorded, documented and fully supportable facts. The truth should be heard and not suppressed by fear. Therefore, the consensus view of many people was that this was so serious and has affected so many people that something had to be done to make our fellow enthusiasts aware and to forewarn unsuspecting folks when coming to a decision as to who to use for their repair and restoration work. If one sees a blind person about to get run over crossing the road, one doesn't stand idly by.

Many have suffered losses big and small and too many have 'just put it down to experience'. But now their consciences just can't allow it to continue any longer nor allow others to suffer a similar fate. For the sake of all now and those following on after, this needs to be aired.

Thank you for your understanding. Kind regards.

The cost of litigation, and more importantly the disruption to the lives of traders and customers alike,  of serious conflict, make it all the more important for there to be easily accessible and reliable reviews.

While as a small hotel owner I sometimes feel like setting up a site to "blacklist" troublesome guests - on the whole, Trip Advisor type sites do provide a mutual benefit in the hospitality sector. Too often poor reviews occur because there is a mismatch between the expectations of the customer and the service "normally" provided by the establishment. In general I feel frequently used review sites do make it easier to keep both sides Honest.

Classic car enthusiasts with limited skills or experience seem too frequently at the mercy of traders - there are just too few of any marque specialists - for the hapless customer to risk complaining too loudly ( " where will I go if I upset my local garage!" ) - or perhaps as the above poster says - we are too ashamed to admit when we have been taken for a ride.

Rather than fearing being implicated in a libel case - I think the custodians of sites like this are in an excellent position to develop a reliable review platform - where traders & customers can share their experiences of one another.

That Greta is, on balance, in favour of user review sites changes my mind about them.

From outside the 'hospitality' industry, I had the impression that TripAdvisor just gave the idle and viscious licence to abuse.   But then so does Facebook, or Twitter, and like the Curates Egg, they can't be all bad.   I don't suppose that Sideways would consider such a Sideline?

When I was a young shaver, I broke up with the love of my life (up till then).  In my mind, it was a tragedy that eclipsed all normal thought.  A week or so later, I was on the phone to my Dad, and was (yet again), trying to edge the conversation around to that world eclipsing tragedy.  Wise bloke that he is, he saw where I was going and cut me off.  I've never forgotten his harsh but fair words.

"Mate, it's huge for you right now, but no one actually cares.  Get over it, and get on with life."

Abnormal circumstances happen every day.  You can underline, bold, italic, or even capitalise all you like about whats happening, but the only people who actually care are the  ones involved.  The rest of us don't want your dirty laundry aired here.

By all means, let us know the outcomes.  By all means, let us know if you've evidence of being wronged.  If you don't like how a business is dealing with your cars, get them out of there.  That's your choice.  If you don't want to work there anymore, that's your choice.  Think you've been overcharged and under delivered?  Feel free to say so, but back it up with facts.

In 8 years of running Sideways, I've only seen three posts that needed removal, and one was in this thread.  Don't come here and use this wonderful resource just to further your little spat.

I look forward to you all starting threads detailing how your working on the cars.  That's what we're here for.

Good Afternoon  Craig,

I too had the then Love of My life , pack me !!  It was tough at the time, but a good character builder !!

This is slightly different,  I am 66 looking forward to a great car for my retirement,  and have given the Restoration Company £33 k , and have a pile of Shiite to show for it....

Just thought that your members,  young and Old should be aware of this Rogue Trader. Sandm Triumph Restoration Ltd.

I am happy to leave it at that.....sadly the thread has changed tack anyway .

All the best ,

Conrad.

Greta, I admire your shameless 'plug'... made me smile. I have only once in my life not given a review, otherwise always given good reviews as everywhere has something good about it.

GT6MK3, it isn't for the furtherance of a spat or to air dirty washing, it's because we care enough about fellow enthusiasts (who might not care right now) so as to help them from becoming involved themselves. In the next few days it should be possible to PM you with the 'evidence' that you appear to be calling for and then we would welcome your informed judgement.

Experience is something I've only ever had just after I really needed it.  I should like to add to that what my father said to me "it is far better to learn from other peoples experiences and also to give people the benefit of your own experiences". Kind regards.

To my recollection, and I've been here since the site was opened, it's always been the policy that we not slag off vendors or tradespeople by name due to possible legal repercussions.  We all arrived here by heavy handed mods driving usfrom a previous site.  Much as I'm seeing with the fresh influx of welcome newcomers.  Typically our Admin have never been heavy on authority so I would beg that we maintain our "pirate ship" mentality that brought us here and respect the light touches of control we occaisonally see?  Please?

Greta,  I have to admit, I haven't read right though all your TripAdvisor entries, and most make me want to ring you.  Your enormously tolerant answers to people who actually downgrade your lovely hotel because of poor wifi deserve a Nobel Peace Prize!

Hi,

sad thread. Too many people lose money or worst these days.

Anyhow, my new website KDTriumph.Co.UK is going live soon. It will summarise my experience in the rebuild business. Away from here.

At the moment it is linked to my main site.

Read about the laughs, joys, lies, Bullshit & fun I had and am still having now.

On my new website:

Learn how to turn the ferrous metal into Ferrous Oxide. (While having a top coat)

Learn how to ensure wheels will come loose with no fault on your part.

Learn about https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stockholm_syndrome  Understand it's not your fault..

Cheers,

Iain.
