Messages of support fro Darren TR5tar

I have added my support on the TRR thread. Took me nearly 3 hours to read, digest and post after midnight last night. Stunned and shocked at what has happened, both to Paul and Darren.

Darren do phone me.

The Register could have moved on from the Cunnington lethargy days - I just hope we can oust the Board - what Alec had hoped to achieve by stealth if a time limit of 3 - 5 years had been introduced. Some of the committee were on there when I stood in the early 80s ! Trying to learn what had gone before was treated with 'well you should have been here then' - being treated like a dumb blond type attitude. Dispicable.

Menno!  Welcome to the Lifeboat!     I've kept out of the debate on TRR as I'm a member but  don't have a TR, just a Triumph withn a TR6 powerplant, and grateful for the advice and insights they have on that.   I'm not one for 'runs' and dinners anyway,  so I'm not active in the local club scene either.

Janner & Dave, fine, communicate away.   Despite the success of Dave Sideways' enterprise, more Triumph sites wouldn't help.     But have you considered "WhatsApp"?    Just by exchanging mobile numbers and setting up a group there, you can have (allegedly) unbreakably confidential communications.

I really hate petty politics like this and do agree that it stems from trying to run the thing primarily as a business rather than as the club it should be. Unfortunately it seems the need to be a limited company, to protect the members, encourages that kind of thing by attracting the power junkies - and as others have said the TRR is far from alone in that.

If they do get that EGM I will be there if possible.

When AtB was closed earlier this year, the question of ownership of the information contained in the many and varied threads therein arose. Ostensibly, this was solved by the contents being transfered to the members' section.

But if, as some have suggested, access to the whole forum is now potentially in doubt, this would raise a more fundamental question about the ownership of a wealth of unique information. Because it has been given freely cannot make the TRR the sole owner and arbiter of it.

Or..?

The whole ‘point’ of dropping an excellent arrangement with a specialist insurer back in 2012 was to create an allegedly ‘specially tailored to TRR members’ in house Insurance arm.

and here we are, 6 years later, and the much vaunted TRI is nothing more than a front for a high street chain after a series of sell ons.

and Towergate still offer what they always did and we were happy with - and way undercut TRI who are now charging a gold plated premium for an OTS mass market product.

Whilst I'm loath to discuss TRR issues here, as the noise to signal ratio is already high, that's not actually true, the policy isn't bad, the premiums not expensive, especially if you have multiple vehicles, they were even happy to add the newer Cosworth for peanuts, they are actually very good about claims (as Chris found out last year) and most importantly if your insured with them you can drive cars owned by other policy holders with full cover (not just third party) without any need to inform them.

Never used Towergate, so have no idea of comparison though.

The plot thickens...

Ian C's letter to the GLs for distributing to the members is ignored by some GLs and the Acting Chairman gives the advise (in so many words) to ignore Ian's mail... I wonder if a chairman is allowed to suggest not to vote on grounds of 'unfair' and 'undemocratic'. Every member can look up the info on the 'net.

Dutch company laws would finish off a director/chairman suggesting to ignore other members' valid question for an EGM! A chairman should encourage participation and is off course allowed to put his advice (clearly stated as advice) to it - together with pointing the readers of the mail where to find the opposite info.

Again, I am not posting this on the TR forum for reasons already mentioned

I also don’t post much in TRR site much now for similar reasons , in fact I’ve only just recently in the last few weeks gone back to it after a few years break . I was going to rejoin the club after letting my membership lapse . I used to be very active as a local member and on the forum but for some reason was ignored and treated with contempt last time I went to a show . Still to this day don’t know what I did as never fell out with anyone before . People are strange .

My first impression of looking through the forum though was “ well nothing has changed here either “ the high Heid yins in the ivory tower at didcot still ignore the members and will do anything to protect their elite status .

I don’t know Darren but from what I’ve read he seems to have the ideals of the club at heart and was breach enough to stand and put his head above the parapet . Unfortunately the powers that be destroyed any integrity they had and just expelled him as the easy option .

Thats how it appears to an outsider . Please correct me if I’m wrong.

If I was still a member I would be with you calling for an EGM , but as it stands I can obviously only voice my support .

Hopefully they won’t just expel you all for an easy life .

Hi

I understand that the meeting between Ian C, Ian B & the BOD's took place yesterday, I'm concerned that we haven't anything from that meeting and we will loose momentum and the focus of the TRR members who want Darren reinstated.

Has anyone heard anything

Phil, Ben

Is the issue being kept alive in the MC?  The only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about, etc.

As with many of the ills our society today, the silent acquiescence of the indifferent majority is by far the biggest threat to open and transparent governance - it lets bullies, conmen and thieves do what they want.

Hi Paul

There is still a thread running. There seems to be some back room discussions going on which concerns me - i.e. that a deal is being done behind the scenes which makes me uneasy! If the TRR want to expel members then there should be a proper proceedure to do so not the bizzare turn of events that has occurred. AFAIK the required 50 requests for an EGM has been reached and I'm waiting to notification of when & where.

Hi Ben

It would be a shame for "all TR enthusiasts past, present and future" if the Board chose to protect their positions/personal interests and ignore the membership.  It would be an even greater shame if the indifferent majority allowed them to get away with it.

Funny how the smell of fudge is very similar to bullsheet...

What is the betting that as a minority, the forum users are not listened too. And if put to the vote across the whole membership. Most members would vote for the status quo. ( other bands are available!) rather than rock the boat. Or just not vote at all so any mandate is on a very low turn out/ votes cast.

I don’t know what the TRR membership age demographic is but I bet older, retired and longstanding ?

does this suggest  a particular voting tendency - I don’t know.

intersting times - from a 50 something new member  ! Who drives his TR3a like he stole it. And not at 40 mph in in a 60 limit in a long line of TRs on a Sunday afternoon.

I'm in the same age bracket Hamish. However I live in the New Forest where there is a blanket 40 mph limit because of the loose livestock - who don't dent but die if hit.  When I need to "steal it" I need to go further afield!  The best are the unrestricted autobahns in Germany (on CT 10CR 2017) where Geoffrey managed 106 mph in the wet with a cross-wind (Sat Nav speed not speedo!) before the  passenger started complaining and my right leg ran out of reach. A bit far to go on a Sunday afternoon though!

I know what you are going to suggest next........ but I think he needs some engine work before I venture on to a hill!

Paul/ Ben

The thread is just about alive in MC, I do believe however that the BOD's are deliberately pussy footing around to take the sting out of things, I am worried about these meetings and that suddenly there will be a compromise, you can be sure it won't be in Darren's favour.

Hamish - I agree with your thinking, I would guess that most of those members who  go to Group Meetings are not active on the Forum. I think the BOD's see us as a minority. I did look at the age of the current BOD's, the youngest being 63 and the oldest 80, but what really shocked me was that 1 Director had been there for 20years!!.

Finally do the BOD's have to agree to the EGM by 30th August, (that 50+ votes by 09/08/18 + 21day's)?.

Yes sorry I went off piste there!

I have already stated my concern a couple of posts ago - that a fudge might happen!  I continue to be concerned!  However IF  the original decision is rescinded and a proper proceedure can be put into place then perhaps an EGM isn't necessary - saving the expense?!

I fear that the BoD have become entrenched and are still digging on the basis that this is a storm stirred up by a few insignificant members who don't represent the mainstream membership who, as Hamish suggests finds the who issue a bewildering sideshow.  However, it is possible to enjoy your car and care about the governance of the club!

At the latest this needs sorting by 1st week of Sept.............by my calculations (alowing for weasel issues like weekends and Bank Holidays!)

Problem is that the bulk of the non-forum using membership will be entirely oblivious to the whole saga as they are hardly going to write an article in TR Action are they?  Though might publish a carefully worded letter.......?

Nearly a bad as the bloody government.......
