mattius
Whats the best radiator flush stuff to use? I refilled the engine with just water to get it running, now i want to flush it and get it looking anything other than rust orange. Before adding collant/antifreeze
zetecspit
The commercial flushes are (I suspect) sodium hydroxide or something similar? (NaOH may be too harsh, it attacks ali especially when hot) But for rust, an acid works well. I have often wondered about doing a flush with alkali, flush, acid, flush, then phosphoric acid to "convert" the iron/steel surfaces. Just an idea. But for a simple answer, I have used holts speedflush, and been happy with the results. Good hosepipe through before and after, especially pushing the hose up against the block drain, and also the heater both ways.
toofast2race
I cleaned out a blocked heater matrix with white vinegar - magic stuff for loosening rusty muck - flush with water then fill with Toyota spec red OAT coolant
Nick Jones
I'd suggest buying a proprietary flushing solution intended for mixed metals engines and use as directed. Hopefully they know what they're doing.......... NaOH is probably a bad idea as it's really rather good at eating aluminium and not that great at de-scaling.
