Anybody In Or Close To Leeds?

Recommended Posts

I am trying to buy an engine that was advertised for sale in Leeds LS17 but it is not able to be transported because

the vendor hasn't drained the oil from it.

The engine is a Triumph slant four, currently lying on its side (exhaust manifold down) secured to a pallet.

In order to drain the oil the engine will need to first be standing up (and then propping up). The vendor can't do this

so I am wondering if any of you fine folk here is able to help please?

I will of course cover all expenses, etc

thanks,

Ian.

The pallet carrier won't uplift the engine whilst there is still oil in it.

The vendor suggests lying to them by stating it has been drained. Naturally he is accepting no responsibility for

paying for the inevitable clean up. The carriage cost is close on £120 as it is.

Obviously I wouldn't have replied to the advert if it had been clear that the engine wasn't ready to be transported.

thanks,

Ian.

Your vendor has an engine, on a pallet, but can't get it upright to drain the oil.

How did they get it there?

The engine was removed from a car - unless they used a gas axe to cut the car away from the engine, and let it drop on the pallet, some sort of lifting gear was involved.

And even once on the pallet, a stout rope will tilt it upright for draining.

Or is the vendor to Little Old Lady who drove her Triumph to church on Sundays, and never raced or rallied it?

In which case, respect, madam, for your skills with said gas axe.

  • 3 weeks later...

Many thanks to Dave (Daisymoose) for collecting the engine, draining it of oil and securing it properly to a pallet.

It was delivered yesterday.

I'm going to keep it for the proverbial rainy day.
