In the second case that the UK is one of the rainiest parts of Europe has nothing to do with it, it's a fashion. I can't imagine what Americans do with their enormous SUVs. They're popular with people towing large boats, horsefloats, cattle trailers and caravans (the sort with pop-out sides and satellite dishes). Quite a few have been converted to tow with a fifth wheel / gooseneck setup. Ford F350s are the most common big pickup as they're sold by Ford Australia in right hand drive form, but Dodges are much rarer as they have to be imported privately and converted to right hand drive by specialists, so cost about $120k. At least the giant SUV I saw had a modicum of weather protection. In both cases I had to wonder what they were thinking to select such an inappropriately sized vehiclefor the lanes. Yesterday we were off to Goodwood (Gill was doing a supercar experience, she REALLY liked the Atom!) and as we arrived there was a brand new Range rover at the car park entrance, obviously checking something with the delightful young lady(Jess) on duty. Next he is in reverse, and wallops Gills Spitfire. Apparently he was in the wrong car park, and he couldn't see our car (because he didn't check his mirrors!!) He tried to blame us driving up behind him, but Jess soon corrected him, checked we were OK, and gave us her contact details and the company details, Seems us mere mortals who drive (what were) normal sized cars should just keep out the way of the SUV drivers. I know a friend got his (proper) Mini wacked at a petrol station. The other driver said it was his fault for driving such a small car..... Anyway, off to my friendly bodyshop on Tuesday.... Have to confess though, a reversing camera is damned useful with trucks, I have a Ford Ranger which I tow with. The trailer is a 16ft 3.5 tonne beast, 6 and 1/2 foot wide. When it is in line with the Ranger, I can see the sides of it and no more!! I reckon I can easily loose two small chassis Triumphs end to end behind the truck that are simply not visible from mirrors alone. Scary thought............
