martinholmesuk
Fiting the window glass again and I just can't get it right. The bar (on top of door in a pic) has been fitted but it bend so much and it all jams up. Without the bar it's OK. Also how much play should the winder have before it moves the glass? See picture of winder postion. Any help most welcome. Cheers Martin
neilnaz
Martin I am not sure that the bar should be bent like that but I don't actually recognise it or its purpose. It looks like being shaped as it is it would certainly get in the way of the window raising/lowering. Is it part of the door glass regulator shown in the picture attached? The play in my winders are similar to yours. Hope that helps. Neil
mark spit
I reckon that bar should be nice and flat, it's one of 911272/1 isn't it. There's at least that much play in my winder mechs as well. Mark
martinholmesuk
Yes guys it's the 911272 or 1. It was flat but it's bent hardcore. I have two of these as I left the other out of my other door because of the same thing. I do not understand why it's not working. :S
mark spit
You need to have that bar in as it keeps the arms that fit into the metal work at the bottom of the window glass parallel. If they can't stay parallel then the glass will twist in the channels, the one on the winder bit will go part way until the angles change then it'll try to keep lifting and the back one will stall. I think there's something not assembled right when bolted in, the parallogram bit can flip a couple of different ways when removed, cos it's not working right, the weakest part which is the flat bar gets bent by the forces acting on it. Try assembling without the door glass in, you should be able to wind the mech so that the bits that go into the glass metalwork move in a nice curve from bottom of the door to the top. Good luck, any good with rubiks cubes? Mark
Harry
;D Hi Martin, assemble it all together, but don't tighten the 7 screws (SH604041) fully up. Then wind the mechanism several times up and down, so the screws find their position in the elonguated holes, without bending the flat part. cheers Harry. martinholmesuk
Hello, Can the wrong sided glass be fitted? What side should the kite marks be on ? cheers Martin
socalspitfireguru
Spitfire MKIV side window glass is flat, so the same bit of glass will fit on either side of the car. Original glass will have the markings on the inside if the glass is used in right hand door, and on the outside for the left hand door.
martinholmesuk
I don't then. Mine jam up and everything. Move the bar from outside to the inside of the mech and it's better but still not very good. :-(
