A fun game of reaction and prediction!

Recommended Posts

If the blocks changed or were randomised each time, it would be true test...I just learnt where to go and sit quietly and not move, then move to another spot, do the same and repeated what worked and memorised the pattern....Do admit over 22-25 seconds its rather HARD!

Dave - I think your comment here illustrates the point of these tests nicely! Most pilot tests are about complex pattern spotting rather than having quick reactions. Its much more useful as a pilot to be able to patern spot and do multiple tasks simultaneously rather than just being quick.

The industry standard PILAPT test is a real challenge! Basically you need to keep a 2 bars over a point on the screen with a joystick (with one axis reversed!) while being read patterns of numbers. When the gap between the numbers changes you need to press a button. Every so often the voiceover says something like 'red triangle' and you have to press the red colour key when the specified shape appears in the corner of the screen. That really sorts the men from the boys!

You get about 30 seconds to practice that task but it does comes at the end of a lot of other tests so by the time you come to do it you'll already have done the number, shape and joystick task individually.

There was also a crazy test where it'd say something like 'positive left hand square' and then show you three guys holding different shapes (and maybe facing you or away from you or upside down etc). You have to press the number of guys that are holding that shape or not if it specifies negative. You have 5 seconds to decide at the beginning but they gradually reduce it to 2!
