AUSTIN 1300 PRINCESS suspension unit

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Here is a message to help my brother with his probably new toy. :) :)

My brother is going to buy a nice BMC AUSTIN 1300 Vanden Plas princess: the luxuary small saloon car.

The car seems to be in good condition: no rust, nice leather interior, the engine runs well, the automatic gearbox too.

But there is a problem with the hydrolastic suspension: indeed on unit called "sphere" in french is leaking :'( and a new one is needed.

Here are the questions:

- where we might find an hydrolastic unit ? are they the same as the MINIs ?

- Does anybody know specialists, parts suplliers for these small saloons ?

All advices and contacts are welcome.

Many thanks by advance for helping him to find suppliers. ;) ;)

1300 is a bit lethargic - 1100 needs a calender for 0 - 60......

Actually quite good little cars if you can find one the tin worm hasn't eaten (there aren't many left!)

I bought a nice one at auction at my first trip over in about 1984.  Lovely little car with a manual ttrans.  I wish I'd have shipped it over.  They seem to be rather rare as it got attention everywhere we went. :P

Didn't the VDP 1300s have twin carbs to make them a bit faster?  I seem to remember they were uprated over the standard 1300s.  No doubt the autobox will dull performance a little.  Is it a 4 speeder

May be able to help, or perhaps someone like Earlpart could point you in the right direction?

Many thanks for the news and help.

We went to see the car:  it wasn't in a such good condition. The engines was OK: the 1300 was fitted with one SU HS4.

The wrong things: the sills were rotten under some filler, it was the same thing for the front fascia, two new suspensions units were  needed ... the price coudn't be discussed and was to high for the small car.

So, my brother didn't buy it ...he didn't bhuy this one, but it will be another Princess.
