Quick Release Steering

Recommended Posts

Hi,

First post!

Does anyone know if you can get a quick release boss for the steering wheel on a GT6?

I've like to be able to detatch the steering wheel as a security measure.

Thanks,

Dave

It's hard to tell much from the links but it's safe to say that any of them will add some slop to you're steering on a street car.  There are many quick releases on offer,   All of them will give you the same issue unless you deal with it up front.

Indexing the wheel.

You're used to the top of the wheel being straight ahead but you can't assure that after the conversion.  A lot of the better QD's have fine splines to impove the feel but exacerbate the problem accordingly.

Where's the supplier to offer a fine spline assymetric mount??

Mine is a simople hex adapter welded to the steering shaft, a lightly stressed joint, and I've added a keyway and post to ensure correct lineup each time it's installed.

HTH, Steve

(Thread resurrection warning...)

I have SPA quick releases on two of my (road) cars - no slop whatsoever and welding them on isn't absolutely necessary - on of mine is just pinned (lightweight AX) the other is Loctite bearing fit-ted and pinned, as it's too close to the top bearing to weld.
