  1. Hi , Hopefully I have sold my GC 1585 VX engine to a leading member on the Guy Croft forum . I have started digging out relevant parts and unbolting from the TranX ready for pick up this week . it is destined for a Moggie van the guy is building for his father to join the two GC powered Minors he has himself . Be good to sell the 130tc rebuilt engine as well but no enquiries so far . Nor for the 1592 engine and box . ‘ patience grasshopper , patience ‘ .
  2. HAPPY CHRISTMAS ALL !! ( For 24 hours try and ignore the inevitable never receding global corruption folks ) XXX
  3. I am thinking at my late stage in life that I need to start thinning my auto nest . Having a big pool of parts is very comforting until it reaches a point that there isn’t a room in your tiny castle not causing claustrophobia ! A car , two engines and two short blocks and all the normal garage/garden stuff in a single garage . Seven heads and numerous cam carriers/covers on the staircase . Seven boxes of bits in the sitting room and twelve boxes of bits in the kitchen !! If Debra was not a fashion hoarder I would have been given ultimatums a long time ago . If I had a fully running car and 8 boxes of spares in the garage I would be a happy man . I have therefore posted potential adds on GC forum and Betaboys forum for the 130tc engine and the 1600 GC Volumex currently in the car . I will concentrate on the 2.0 injection build using one of the two new short blocks in the garage . More suitable to touring/track day . If we get a chance to move we won’t need any more than what is essential to be moving . Also with the current climate some cash in would be helpful .. Thats the theory .
  4. Astounding engineering but will such fascinating technology outperform the relentless destruction ?
  5. Of course the header is still looking good as highly unlikely to foul high output starter ( no steering column , OF COURSE ! why do I scare myself ? ) Mind you , still not a total certainty .
  6. Been too busy to put it in yet but I have faith in the guy so fingers crossed .
  7. Just stung for another 170.00 import tax on the header ! P.S Going back to my van panel repairs - I was shocked myself when I went into ‘ ONE STOP ‘ a good garage I have used for MOT and tyres in the past by Bromley North station to ask if the owner knew of any decent spray shops . He ask to have a look at the panel and despite not being a body shop said ‘ leave it with me for a day and a night and I will do that for you for 250.00 cash . SORTED !! 3500.00 are you serious ????
  8. Not too impressed as to the response to the little test I gave you all there ! clue ; Reverse port head . God perhaps it’s time I go and get tested !!
  9. I’ll video the test fit for you all . Should be interesting .
  10. Stupidly with the car buried in the garage I was forgetting about the steering column ! Might have been a waste of time on the header front . We’ll see .
  11. Good afternoon , some of you may well be aware that Guy Croft passed away earlier this month after a long fight with cancer . RIP i spoke with Lain Swan at SMD this morning who once worked for Guy and remained his friend . I believe he said that Guy’s funeral is on Monday . Not being aware of his condition I had approached Guy on the forum regarding a crank identification and also made initial enquiries regarding purchasing some forged rods and other bits . He ask me to call him urgently to discuss but sadly the call was not answered . Lain is fairly booked up at present ( good to hear in these times ) so work on the block has been booked in for February . He suggested holding off on purchasing forged rods from anywhere else until after he has spoken to people on Monday . A very talented Fiat/Lancia man on Betaboys forum Eric Weston ( worth looking at his builds ) has suggested Lancia Delta rods will fit the 2.0 131/124/Beta type crank and all though they require a long supply time , Carrillo do list these Delta rods . The F/L 2.0 crank was the only crank out of the F/L 1.6 ( 3 variants 1585, 1592 and 1608 ) 1.8 (1756 ) and 2.0 ( 1995 ) where the crank was heat treated . Having a new short block my injection build is of course OK on the crank front but the fully rebuilt 130tc Strada Abarth engine I am looking to sell on had its crank ground and new shells fitted in the build which Eric suggested leaves it good for a road engine but not ideal for a higher performance build . I have therefore been searching for a std 2.0 crank to supply with the engine along with new std shells that I have . However Eric also confirmed finding a good std 2.0 crank these days is a major challenge and can mean having to purchase complete 2.0 engines and hoping the crank is still std . I Ebayed another Beta head at a good price partly for its top water pipe which I hope I will be able to use on my reverse port head to bring the water from the bulkhead end towards the front where it would have been . I have also ordered this header from Allison’s Fiat in California with the hope it will fit the Spits bay . It is quite fortunate that this design once on the reverse side of the head to normal , heads it’s tubes away from the bulkhead which I need as the engine sits 4” rear wards of std . Likewise the angled throttle body manifold which would normally move the carbs/throttle bodies rearward to miss the block mounted distributor , on a reverse port head , moves the bodies away from the bulkhead so there is hope there .
  12. Just very depressing that crime is no longer a concern .
  13. Especially for just the one size 5 1/2” . Nice wheels though .
  14. Personally I would go maned up and tooled up in a different vehicle , find the vehicle in question and beat it to a pulp ! Don’t forget it’s YOUR car , you can do what you want with it ! Stick the event on YouTube . See if the toe rag wants to make a complaint ?
  15. Thanks all for the encouragement/suggestions . The arch has a plastic inner panel but I might just Starret a hole through this to access the dent then the removed piece can be fixed back into place afterwards . Ill show pics when I get round to it . Teach me not to consentrate on the job in hand !
  16. Indeed Richard , I just paid 650.00 for a fully worked twin cam head ready to run , extra big valves , new seats , race cut , flow tested etc ...Or .... 3500.00 to change one panel . Which one would be easier to take on ? At the end of the day there is one 3” area that needs coaxing back into line . Surly a worthwhile body company would not be so scared of this that they would opt for a new panel !?!?! Bit of fettling followed by one panel respray . What could be easier ! I am looking forward as a total amateur to see how hard it can be .
  17. Yes Nick , interesting that he feels incapable of straightening the existing panel ? Only part with any real cost involved .
  18. If it came to it I would dig out this untried sprayer out of its box and have a go myself . I have plenty of hammers , blocks , newspaper etc . How much is a litre of VW metallic , base coat , some masking tape , Emery paper etc ? Be good practise .
  19. Seems acceptable to you John ?
  20. Indeed Pete ! Sad state of affairs .
  21. This is why we all pay so much for insurance ! These companies make easy money and the insurance companies aren’t bothered as they just increase premiums to cover these extortionate quotes . Yet another example of the continuing slip down the global gutter .
  22. A moments distraction looking at a neighbouring house’s OTT Halloween display brought me in glancing contact with the concrete entrance post of a clients house I have been redecorating . ( IDIOT !! ) . This caused some minor denting to the rear arch of my VW transporter and some shallow surface scratching to the same Single lower panel as can been seen . I checked Google for a reasonably reviewed local body shop and was pleased to see good reviews for a company on a very local trading estate . I took the van down there and explained that it would be a cash transaction and that I had significant work goods on board so would rather everything was left locked as I could see no reason why there would be a need to enter the rear of the van , the guy happily looked it over and said he would send an email with the quotation . My guesstimate was probably going to be 4-6 hundred max even though I thought I could get the work done for nearer 3 if I found a recommended independent sprayer . Studying the pics and excepting the premise that some minor arch re-shaping would be needed once the wheel was removed , panel prepped , masked up , paint ordered , panel sprayed . My guess 6-8 hours MAX . HOW MUCH ???
