  1. Interesting, thanks Peter. The more useful information we have in this thread the better.
  2. My bottle of Lagavulin is down to the last quarter, so I reckon it'll have to go into the reserve stock soon. My other regular go-tos at the back of the cupboard are the Laphroaig and the Ardbeg Uigeadail. I've not tried Ileach. Sounds interesting. It's not just the peaty whisky that I like, there are many others. It depends on my mood as to which I enjoy most.
  3. That's interesting, thanks Chris. I've been wondering for a while why the German morality rate was so out of step with other countries with similar reported numbers.
  4. I like to partake of a good single malt scotch now and then Matt. More "now", than "then" of late, I confess. I typically have several bottles on the go. Never to get plastered you understand, but just for a wee dram of a cold evening. I'm a peathead, lover of the Islay whiskies in the main, but tonight I'm on a cask strength 12 year old Springbank, at a very respectable 54.2%. That's got to knock a virus on the head! Probably back to the Lagavulin tomorrow. I've not had the Classic Laddie, but it's on the list. Darren
  5. Glad to hear that news Clive. Hope your mum feels fully better soon. I heard from a friend a couple of days ago to say that his wife has it. All the signs, persistent cough, fever, and headache. They followed advice and didn't call 111, just self isolated to see how things develop. Today she is no better, so they are calling 111 for advice. I'm waiting to hear. My friend did say that he knows a couple of others will. One suffered very badly ... said his lungs felt like they were "on fire". He is recovering now, but extremely weak. Brings it home when you start to know people suffering from it. Darren
  6. I think you are right that it's too early to draw any conclusions from the data. Sorry to hear that your mum is displaying symptoms and I hope it all goes well for her.
  7. This is an interesting take on the situation . . . https://www.spectator.co.uk/article/The-evidence-on-Covid-19-is-not-as-clear-as-we-think?fbclid=IwAR1gF3fNyZ1Nw6Ueq-Egu7b3-a5Tv_Ac2SVjVQJZnjyzmos0GRgQXVVXdog
  8. Thanks Peter. Do you have a link to the video of 10 February that you referred to above? Hope you are doing well. Darren
  9. Hi Peter, Just tried your link and it's taking me to what looks like your login page. Darren
  10. Hi Rod, I've looked on that link and it just says that the "MOT expires soon".
  11. Unfortunately, my wife runs everything down to the wire. Just in time attitude of a children's social worker she reckons
  12. Who knew, even just a few weeks ago, that the world was on a knife edge (OK, Bill Gates did to be fair). It now seems a lifetime ago that I was sat around the table enjoying Christmas with family and friends. How quickly everything has changed. Yes, some mistakes in policy and strategy might have been made along the way, but I certainly believe that everyone involved in managing this is doing their absolute best. I can understand that frustration and fear leads to anger, but negativity and blaming doesn't really do much good in the end. It doesn't make a blind bit of difference. Time for everyone to pull together; that's the way to beat this. I'm overwhelmed by the numbers of retired NHS staff returning to work, but not surprised by their selfless acts. They and those already at the frontline placing themselves at risk are true "heroes", and that's not a word I use lightly. Likewise, those manufacturing firms that are working at breakneck speed to assist. Of course these things are not ideal, but these are not ideal times. And in cities, towns and villages all over, people are banding together with neighbours to help one another. I'm working with others in our street to make sure that nobody gets left behind if we can help it. Everyone I speak with wants to put themselves forward. That's the spirit. Darren
  13. Thank you for the additional links Miles and Rod. I think the new information on the .gov link makes things a bit clearer, but it all seems to hinge on when exactly an MOT expires. On my wife Tina's car, it says that the MOT is valid until 30th March 2020. I wonder if that means it expires at midnight on the 29th, or if it includes the 30th.
  14. Typically, my wife's car has a valid MOT until the 30th. If it was the day before or the day after it would be easier to know. I'm reading it at the moment that she doesn't need to get it, but I could be wrong. I'd rather avoid getting the MOT if I can, as she is in the high risk category and I want to minimise going out.
  15. Just reading the .gov news release and there's something that isn't clear to me ... https://www.gov.uk/government/news/vehicle-owners-to-be-granted-mot-exemption-in-battle-against-coronavirus?fbclid=IwAR0n8zZj2Z0bzGuVjSDBpI1roJTEMvKhSU5Tdb63q6igcxj5TZDNSeVUf0Q With my wife Tina's car, the MOT runs out before the new law comes into effect, so I wonder if it still qualifies for the exemption. I can see that cars that run out within the exemption period (6 months from end of March) won't need the MOT, but what about those that have run out before the exemption starts. For example, I have an old Peugeot that hasn't had an MOT for 5 years. Would that qualify for the exemption?
  16. Thanks Mike. I thought that they might.
  17. I thought that would be the case Rod, regarding antibodies, but wasn't sure if the virus had to be active at the time of the test to show up. Hope you and your family are all staying well. Darren
  18. One thing I've wondered about is whether there is a trace left in the system. For instance, let's say someone has the virus but shows little or no symptoms, and so doesn't know that he/she has it. That person then recovers. Can a test tell if it's been present in the system and then gone? Darren
  19. Useful document for those that which to follow who is doing what in the search for treatments and vaccine ... https://milkeninstitute.org/sites/default/files/2020-03/Covid19 Tracker 032020v3-posting.pdf
  20. Thanks Neil. Hope you are all keeping well. Best wishes, Darren
  21. Thanks. My MOT is due end of April, but tax isn't due to June, so as I didn't tick the exemption on the tax renewal last year, I'm not sure where I stand. Is it the case that I can just not get it MOT and then claim the exemption later when re-taxing it?
  22. Yes, strictly speaking it is. Although, the word's meaning does seem to have expanded a bit over the years ... computers can go into hibernation at any time of the year But I think you are right Peter, so the search for a better word goes on. How about "Aslongasittakesination"
