    • Had a quick look though a very few photos today, to show my niece  a photos of her great great grand parents. My dad was an avid photographer and I have probably thousands of photos that never see the light of day. Literally first few photos were these long forgotten shots of cars I once owned. The yellow trailer was an old  base of a caravan I picked up for free. Late eighties, there seemed to be loads of angle iron bed frames being dumped everywhere, so they were stick welded on to the frame to make the bed, ramps etc. Towed well, ran out of time to fit mud guards can't remember if I ever did. The Scimitar was a great tow car, pulled the spitfire and trailer to Oulton park from SE London a couple of times, folded the seats flat and slept in the back. According to DVLA the Scimitar still exists which is great to know. Then there's my first Spitfire, a mk3 originally in brown, my first full  restoration project I was 20 at the time. I was 18 when I bought the mk3 Cortina 2000GXL, originally dark green, helped that my dad was a paint sprayer. The sprint I bought after the Cortina. It needed welding on the front chassis leg, battery box area, at the time welding was not generally a DIY option unless you could gas weld. Got it fixed by a back street fellow, covered in copious amounts of black bitumen. Shortly afterwords me and two mates chipped in and bought an arc welder, very difficult to weld car bodies but my mates brother got good use out of it welding up his Herald chassis.
    • Yep, that’s done….. 2m of elastic strapping. Not actually Pirelli, something a bit less spendy. Plus some 1mm steel sheet 45 x 90mm bent into an interesting shape. Squeezed and riveted to the strapping. Fiddly, but cheap and effective. Two in place. I think it needs 4. Made at 270mm for 280mm fitted length. Maybe I’ll be looking over the top of the windscreen……
    • We are just car people. No need to be tribal*. within the same bloody make! *To prove it I have parts from Toyota, Peugeot, Audi, Rover (well, Honda),Volvo, Ford, BMW and even a few Triumph bits in the Vitesse….
    • The CSCChas just published a race report on Donington, in which there is no mention- none deserved! - of SofS. BUT, they have also posted a short video on YouTube,   AND SofS IS IN THE INTRO!!!!!   Momentarily, but TWICE!  WHOOOOOHOO! See:
    • @egret, Asowning two dial guages might seem like arrogance, and  anyway, mounting them both on the cylinder head is a probelm, so I later posted another method, that uses a spirit level!  See: https://sideways-technologies.co.uk/forums/index.php?/topic/9639-a-new-method-of-cam-timing/#comment-134275 JOhn
    • Strange attitude. The Cambridge area has joint TSSC and CT meeting. We don't mind who comes along certainly includes owners from the TR reg and 2000 clubs. Mostly triumphs but sometimes a Rolls, 205GTI, Honda 2000 and a few mx5's. All are welcome and it makes a nice change to see something that's not a Triumph!
    • I suspect die as in 'die-casting' which uses a mould and thence Ameringlish 'mold'.
    • If yours is any of the factory profiles or a symetrical aftermarket one ie inlet and exhaust have equal open close degrees, 22-62 62-22, 35-65 65-35, 40-80 80-40, etc then the method shown in the factory manual works fine. If it's asymetric like most of the Kent ones then this won't work. Helps if you have two sets of feeler gauges but I have in the past done it with one. Just a little more of a faff.
