Winter Daydreams

19 February 2012 - 10:40 PM

With my car 100 miles away having engine/trans work done, I have a lot of idle time on my hands. So I thought I'd dream up a full race GT6 for SCCA's GT2 class. Full tube frame, full carbon bodywork, 15" wheels...etc, etc. Don't know if the old pushrod mill can make enough HP to be competitive in this class, but you could sure look cool...:)

Mystery Cam

18 January 2012 - 02:49 PM

Can anyone ID this cam?

The attached image is a camshaft that I got with the car. It is new and the markings are as shown. The hand scribed mark on the end is M280, and there is one more number in the shaft at the other end from those I photographed - 399.

1 3/4" Su Twin Set Up On Mkiii Gt6

16 January 2012 - 01:17 AM

This is what I am running on my engine, and reading an older post (June 2011) relative to these and other carbs for the GT6, there was no mention of needle recommendations for the 1 3/4 SU for competition. Anyone have any ideas/experience tuning these for racing? Thanks, Clark

Another Yank Gt6

16 January 2012 - 01:00 AM

As I just joined this site, I thought I would show what I'm working on. 71 MKIII I bought after a body off restoration (race car level, no street car bits) so the frame, suspension body was all "done" and painted Orange! Oh well, I put the matt black hood and graphics on it and think its OK now. I put a full SCCA rated roll cage in it and fabed up the instrument panel with new gauges, etc. Lexan windscreen and back light (and quarter windows). Compmotive 13X6 wheels, Spax adjustable coil overs in the rear with rod end lower wishbone, Adjustable coilovers in front. 8X20X13 Goodyear slicks all round. I made up the front airdam/splitter and front wheel arches (all carbonfiber) and will be doing a CF bonnet as soon as I recover from the engine build program which is in progress. Just finished fitting a TR6 box with a Quaife CR dog ring gear set which will hook up to the new 7lb steel flywheel with a 5.5" dual disc Quartermaster clutch. I will get some under hood shots once all is buttoned up in a couple of months (I hope). BTW, I'm 6' 2" and 200lb and have managed to fit myself in by sitting on the floor (with a backer plate welded on the under side) and back against the package shelf kick up. It's not too bad - the worst part is getting in and out for the over 70 driver!

Newby Gt6 Racer

14 January 2012 - 10:24 PM

Just found this great site, so I'm just saying hello. I've been putting together a GT6 MKIII racer (SCCA club racing) for a year or so now and am always happy to find more sources of information on these cars. Lots of help from fellow yank GT6Steve so far, and of course Kastner's books. I'll try and post some images soon. Cheers, Clark
