mattius
So my dashtop was covered in vinyl leatherette a good few years ago, however this has dried out and starting cracking badly. Anyone done any different things? Flocking?
JMH
Try to find a sail maker; they often have vinyl in much better quality that will last
rogerguzzi
Hello Matt This man does things for Spitfires and GT6's http://www.parklaneclassics.co.uk/index.htm Better prices than the big boys? I have just ordered some 1/4 panels and wheel arch covers. I have used his seat foams about 5 years ago and they are still ok and 20,000 miles later Roger
mattius
I used parklane classics back in the day, None of the car is stock now though so i have to make it bespoke. I kinda like the idea of flock but worry about its longevity. Alcantara is another option but is it weather resistant? not the stuff i have seen in previous cars. Nick Jones
We've just recovered ours with a leather-effect vinyl. It was "vacuum bagged" using one of those bedding storage bags which worked out really well, but don't know how it will hold up to direct sunlight....... Possibly not that well if your experience is any indicator........ I think vinyl can live there - provided you use the right stuff. Nick
mattius
Your probably right nick, just wandering if there is something else i should consider.
itiejim
I've used suede in the past. It's a bit more flexible than leather and doesn't cause dash reflections.
motov8id
Have you ever tried these molded plastic covers. I have installed many on MGBs and installed one 8 years ago on my Volvo Amazon that still looks great. They are very durable look exactly like the original and do not crack or fade. They are always on Ebay http://www.englishparts.com/products/gb/Triumph/1980/Spitfire/REPAIR-PANEL--DASH-TOP--WITH-ADHESIVE--INSTRUCTIONS-DIMENSIONAL-SHIPPING-RATES-APPLY/1792989/815281.html?partner=googlebase_adwords&kwd=&origin=pla Edited March 6, 2017 by motov8id
mattius
I always thought that would look cheap, do they look ok?
motov8id
You can not tell the difference between the dash top cap and an original dash the same texture and shape.Thet are very long lasting and installation is easy I will add photos of 2 cars I own with then installed
