Selling A Car Is Stressful

Amigos,
I'm in a mindset of late to clear out the excess crap in my life and that includes the spare GT6's I've had sitting around. The selling point is that they're relatively rust free so I've made a couple connections. I'm making a deal on the red GT6 that you all may remember as "The New GT6" on Photobucket.
There's a really nice guy in Texas that wants it and I'm giving it to him at my cost. My profit is keeping the engine and trans.
That said, now that I've pulled the thing out and actually put "hands" on it I'm getting that restoration nag. The car is sad by my standards and I'm trying to transmit that clearly but I'm starting to see what he sees in the car. He's attracted to the rustfree bit that I take for granted whilst I focus on the dents. It's actually a pretty sound starting point.
I'm going to add a couple of good doors to the deal so he has all the glass to work with.
So why am I so ambivalent about the sale?

There is a piece of mind and freedom that goes with starting fresh. Good luck. And the car may be the spark that motivates the new owner.

It's the male collecting thing.
Most males have a collection of something, from stamps to railway engine numbers to cars, or car parts.
I don't have many cars, but I do have shelves of parts, all poorly (not!) catalogued. Some are bits that I KNOW I will never use, eg set of Spitfire pistons; some are actually broken parts - I mounted a bent conrod in a frame to hang on the wall! How sad is that!
I keep making lists of the never-use parts to sell on ebay, but somehow never get around to doing it!
Everyone is somewhere on the obsessive-compulsive disorder spectrum, and actual hoarding is a symptom of the more extreme versions. Pathological hoarding is more common in men than women, though it appears earlier in women.
Sorry if that sounds like I think you have OCD, I'm don't. All humans are a little bit mad, some more than others.

I like buying cars and parts... but am really bad at selling them!!
I have even hoarded parts for my spares car :-( I have managed to sell 4 wheels this year though, so I guess that is a start!
Last year I was on a saloon drag strut and carburetor rampage...

John, I'm worried now 'cos I really get the bent conrod thing, that's exactly the sort of thing I would do - do I need really expensive therapy??
I have recently discovered a way of dealing with the wife's misgivings about the expense of my hobby, I now buy stuff and sell it again. When I start selling it for more than I bought it for then life will be sweet!
Actually I have cracked it to a degree, it is amazing in the Ebay world how you can buy car stuff at Sunday Car Boot Sales and sell again at Autojumbles at many times the price, you just have to choose v. carefully. So yes, the only way that I can continue with my hobby (according to the wife) is if my ludicrous little fancy (Busted Knuckle Racing) actually makes some money!

I've got a busted 2.5 crank you can have cheap George
. You'll need a pretty robust frame (and wall) though.
And yes - I've also got an extensive collection of automotive tat stored in various places, including a pair of saloon wings in the greenhouse...... I'm going to have to move those - management is getting grumpy!

Never managed to sell a car bar for scrap or tow away only. My steeds get it up the ass, manic pedal to the metal everywhere!

If it makes any of us feel better this sale seems to be going south. He's finding out how much it will cost to ship it to Texas. He's buying a $500 rust free body for $1000 Shipping. Perhaps that could be justified in body work expenses but I'd think it a wash. I suspect he'll bail and I'll be honour bound to refund his $250 deposit. He advanced that without my asking for it.
My effort has been to drag the car out from under the trees, pull the drivetrain and hose off a lot of birdcrap. Bugger all except I now have three major subassemblies around instead of one. The point was to simplify my life.
I hope this works out and I specially hope he's happy in the end but I'm getting bad vibes just now....
