Knackered Drums?

I've been setting up the rear drum brakes and handbrake on my GT6 tonight, but as I adjusted the shoes I noticed on one side they would bind slightly during one part of the rotation. I pulled the handbrake on and off a few time to try and centralise the shoes, but it didn't improve the situation.
Is this occasional binding a sign of knackerd brake drums?

They are probably not quite round. Most of them seem to be not quite round....... some worse than others. Deglazing the inside surface sometimes helps.

You have the drum centring rings on your CV conversion?

Yes I have the centralising rings, I'll have a go at deglazing to see if that improves it.

Hi Steve,
Take them to your local machine shop and ask them to check them and if they are out machine them round again. Will not cost much.

Not really much point at £20 a drum, just replace them if all other options are checked.

You taken the drum off made sure nothing if fouling the shoe? get someone to push the pedal whilst you look at the slave cylinder aswell i had a sticky one once.

Not sure if they are available right now. Certainly they were not for a while. No reason why new ones should be round either with current production standards......

Both of mine do what you describe Steve, and work ok in practice. I did have one that was quite severe and swapped it for a better one.

There seem to be 2 variants
Mk3 up to chassis # KE/KF 20,000 uses 203077
Mk3 from chassis # KE/KF 20,000 uses 215754

Don't know for sure but It looks like they are back in stock.

You'd think that.
I bought a set for my spit. Painted them to look nice. fitted them, less than 200 miles later they would grab and almost lock at one point on each drum, nearly shook the car to bits sometimes.
Sent them back.
Took the originals and got them skimmed round by a friend at work. Fantastic result! Should have done that first.

I bought some new discs for the 2000 which had significant run out and I'm sure were the cause of a nasty judder.

Should have had the old ones machined and saved £100...........

I've had another look at the drums and they are a bit scored also, so I guess it could be worth getting them skimmed. Had anyone had drums skimmed recently? I was wondering roughly how much it would cost.
