Theory says you need one - practice says that once you have started it on "choke" - really metering unit enrichment - and blipped it for 30 secs (to get it on all six cylinders
Idle is generally a bit rich on PI's which must help and if you set the airbleed to give a ~900rpm idle it will get just enough air when cold - if you the kind of person who wants it to idle like a modern car from cold - forget Lucas PI

Thanks Andy no I want my Pi GT6 to be raw and as far from a modern car as I can
one more question please Andy is it a must to use the Pi air box or can carb trumpets be used instead.

Airbox makes filtering air and supplying it cold a lot easier - individual trumpets with foam filters sounds bonkers but what you gain from the trumpet (45 DCOE btw) you probably lose by putting a foam sock on. There is considerable debate about the airflow ability of the original air trunk but its good for at least 170bhp - I would use the original (it has ram pipes) if you have it and then run a large flexible pipe to a decent remote filter

Thanks Andy yes I have the original air box so I will use it thanks
I started to respray the car while the engine is out I have stopped due to my hand op and the cold weather it's going to be painted in satin finish gun metal grey So I only have the engine bay done.

Just a thought on the cold idle front. Absolutely no reason why you can't use one of those thermoelectric valves from the K-jet system. Just provides a metered bypass of the throttle(s). Works from engine heat (to prevent high idle at warm/hot start) and has a heater element in it to make sure it doesn't hang on too long from cold. Just needs a 12v ignition switched supply. Early K-jet Volvo 240 works well - has a short duration. Use these on both my EFIs - no ECU involvement.
I'd also use the original airbox with remote filter as Andy suggests - it's a decently engineered thing and that way you'll get cool air into the engine.
