Kusanagi
After lurking around the site for god knows how long i thought it was about time i posted a few pics of my conversion on my 71 spit, the engine is rover 3.5 lump with a 5 speed lt77 hanging off the back at the rear it has a serrra 3.38 diff being fitted and a coil over conversion to the rear suspension which is based on gt6 cv setup

mk2vitesses
I like it, I had thought of going away from a Trumpet lump. My choice would have been a modern V8 DOHC, like the Audi lump. Still it looks like it should be fun!!!! ;D
TIMSGT6 X 5
Nice looking Boss stripes on the stang, tell me they are original. Interesting coilover, what rating are the springs, and length of setup? Tim
GT6_sleeper
how long till it has an MOT? do you have any pics of how you had to cut/modify the tub to fit on the back of the chassis?

AJ.Lintern
Did you have to reinforce the damper mounting on the vertical link to take the extra loading?
jeffc
Greetings Kusanagi, I am in the process of much the same conversion (Oldsmobile 3.5). Currently, I am focused on the rear suspension but will soon move my attention to the engine placement. It seems that to get the engine to sit as low as possible, it will need to be moved behind the steering rack (or the steering rack moved, which I have seen). If the engine is moved behind the steering rack, it appears that some modification to the firewall is required. Would it be possible to see some additional pictures of your engine bay/firewall? Thanks in advance, Jeff
Kusanagi
If i was to do this project again i might think about using something a bit more moden like one of the LS range of engines. On the matter of the frame mods for the shock mountings i have built new mountings which the shocks attach to (which is double skined with 1.5mm metal) and incorparated that into mountings for the new upper arms and the rear diff mounts, the rating of the rear springs is 150 pounds which is far to soft (needs 180 to 200) and the only modification to the body needed apart from triming under the wheel arch to miss the coil spring and upper arm was to make a cut across the car on the axle hump bend the metalwork back to let in 6cm of new metal then drill a few access holes for the diff and suspension bolts, i hope to have the car on the road by the end of june if the weather stays with me. Next job to do is to sort the cooling, i am hoping that a golf mk2 1.8 rad with two big electic fans should do the job. The mustang is 71 mach 1 with original side stripes with a cleveland 351c 2v with a holley 4 barrel
Kusanagi
The firewall did only need a little triming to miss the back of the engine, the front of the engine (waterpump) sits in exactly the same place as the straight 6 (gt6) which was in the car before
Nick Jones
Interesting project. Is that an Escort based CV conversion? Any chance of some more photos of the diff mounts? I have a Sierra diff in my garage..... Nick
Kusanagi
Well spotted that is a escort based cv conversion, early escort mk4 sharts and outer joints and modified xr2 mk1 inner. The front diff mounts are a hybrid of the original granada frames (cut of the subfame but you could easy make new ones) and the mounting ears from a spitfire diff so you can use poly bushes at the front, the rear is solid mounted at the moment but if it proves to noisy it will get changed to poly bushes. Kusanagi
The next job on the cards is to make my cv adaptors this because the granada flanges are 100mm and my xr2 cv's are 90mm and the spacers 1.25 inches thick, one note i might add is i have widend the rear track of the car slightly (1inch each side) so if you want to do this to your own car you could try fiesta mk1/mk2 short drive shafts as they are a little shorter so you could keep the original track.
