Spitfire's hibernating at the moment, I'm pissed off about the window, so it's sat in the garage since then. I'll check all it's fluids later today though and it can take me down to Goodwood for the breakfast club tomorrow, shouldn't have any qualms about it (but if it's raining I won't bother!). Car won't get worked on until after June the 22nd, as that's after my last exam, and then it'll get a full service, I'll fix both windows, sort the exhaust and get the battery tray welded in
I'll also try and get a better radio in it, and of course the Dolomite will finally join my stable of Triumphs, ready to be my back up for the RBRR. One of the two will have to get me up to Wales in late July, the Spit's taking me and a mate up to Silverstone for the Classic in mid July, and it was going to bomb up to Salisbury in early July but in the end I've arranged different transport! Will also be getting a new coat of paint at some point between now and August. I've got my eye out for a second hand hood, as anything's better than this, and I'd still like a pair of Spitfire 1500 seats, as I've tried some and they're massively more comfortable than the MkIV ones I've got, and comfort will be important for the RBRR (Had a bit of back ache after 150 miles in it, so 2000 won't be fun!). The Spit's owner from 1999-2001 has recently got in touch via the TSSC, he's just bought another Spitfire and I'll hopefully meet him at the breakfast club tomorrow. Amusingly enough most of the problems I've had are ones the car had when he had it... looks like the owners in between didn't do much then!

Comfort is important on the RBRR. I'd strongly recommend something that will recline properly. MX5 seats work well if you are not too tall.

Agree, the MX5 seats are just about the most comfy seats I have snoozed in. May be an idea to have just one as a passenger seat? should be cheap if a pair has a knackered drivers seat.

Not a bad idea Clive, I had considered it...
Sadly Nick I am tall, nearing 6' 4 1/2" now.... with CCF boots on I'm about 6' 7", struggling with doors and probably scaring a lot of the younger parts of the school!

You're too tall for mx5 seats in a spit
I find the driving position wrong and I'm just under 6ft
Passenger seat may be passable though

I don't think so, maybe an inch as the spit hood flaps a little?
I am 5'8, which is undoubtedly the perfect size for a spitfire driver, and I found driving it with the MX5 seats (with some foam cut out the base to get them a little lower) unpleasant in terms of head touching hood, and sitting too high.
As a passenger snoozing, brilliant.

That kind of implies that military boots now have a 2 1/2" heel!
Things must have changed a bit...........
Unless you're in the Cuban Cadet Force....
