A Bit Of A Confession

I must confess,

I thought GT posting here was awesome, and I'm dissapointed Matt closed the thread. I was enjoying it, but had to sleep!

I reckon GT is an absolute dickhead in how he presents himself, but thats not our fault.

I think our membership is tough enough to look after them selves, and those who need help with that will be admirably helped by those who can.

GT's work is oft lauded, and he cant have got this far without good product and hard work. His habit of forever shitting on everyone else's work, ideas, and product is bloody stupid, but sunlight is the best disinfectant, and GT's idiocy is easily batted away when it happens by our strong membership.

I wish the thread was still open, but I have a policy (that I hope we'll all adhere to) of not changing the decisions of another admin.

We could actually help GT if we let him post here, and "train" him to talk up his good rather than shit on others work.

Maybe that would be a good thing. Maybe it's a pipe dream.

Thoughs guys?

help help help
after being throughly ripped off by triumph specialists (many) in an attempt to get more power my 2.5 pi coming in @160 bhp i came across www.jagclub.ru/triumph_pi and modifications that are needed and done to achieve power, ive been sold a lot of tat that certain specialists say i require for more power yet im only up by 10 bhp, does anyone know of this site, does it belong to true guru gareth thomas, in russia, and although he hates the british hierachy of the triumph clique, he remains commited to true power from a true triumph, can anyone sell me loan me or download a copy of his book, or let me know where i can get a copy so i can take it to my newly found unbiased unconnected to upsell of nonsense triumph parts that give me no increase in my power that i crave.
Replaced the bonnet cones as they were a bit worn, thats about it for the moment. On April 19th it's getting set up properly on a rolling road so will be interested to see what sort of power it runs at.

Tr6 Build - Stage Iii Engine

Its a long story, but it seems a TR6 is entering the fold.

It may or may not live alongside the Spit mk3 road car - depends on space and finance. The Spit mk4 race car will remain either way and get finished - not that much to do on it now so hey, why not buy another?

About the car.
It's a TR6, 1973. Its coming from my good friend Pete, owner of Yorkshire Triumphs. There are pics of it in restoration at www.yorkshiretriumphs.co.uk. Click on 'what we do' then 'in the workshop' and scroll down to the TR6 pics. Pete's had it 3 years now, and its almost ready for assembly.

Brief history: Bought from a worm farmer (!) who's into his fast cars. Chassis was bolloxed, lots of panel work needed but the car has a new LSD, and a stage III (whatever that means) engine by Racetorations. It also came with the original, matching numbers CP engine - this needs a full rebuild and probably a donor crank at some point (it's 20 thou under on the big ends).

So - Pete re-chassised the car using a donor. It's had a full suspension upgrade using the CTM kit, polybushes all round, retained lowered springs, boxed in outrigger strengthening and extra plates at the suspension pickup points. It's had a full bodyshell restoration with some new panels and now has great gaps and lines. The body has just finished paint in VW Tornado.
It will soon be time for body to become re-aquainted with the chassis, and so our attention has turned to the engine in readiness.

It was bought in 1986 at a cost of approx £13k according to the invoice. We currently have few details, so I'll be approaching Racetorations soon to see if they have a build sheet - £13k in 1986 was a lot of money, much more that I earned in a year back then! It's on injection, standard Triumph, and the car ran well on arrival so it's known to be good. It seems the head may be by Pete Burgess (thanks Neil), and the PO mentioned Omega pistons but little else is known. Because it was working, we haven't cracked open either the head or sump. The PO said it needed 'unleaded and an octane booster' so I imagine the CR is high!

So, stout fellows, how can you help?

Well, I'm refurbing the injection kit ready for installation. The MU is a modified unit, inscribed 'stage III' and 'special TR6'. Throttle bodies and injectors look standard, and they're being cleaned up now.
Do you think I should replace the injectors as a matter of course bearing in mind their age and the lay-up they've had? Are there different sizes for different spec engines? And where's a good place to go for TR bits?

Cheers

Another Yank Gt6

As I just joined this site, I thought I would show what I'm working on. 71 MKIII I bought after a body off restoration (race car level, no street car bits) so the frame, suspension body was all "done" and painted Orange! Oh well, I put the matt black hood and graphics on it and think its OK now. I put a full SCCA rated roll cage in it and fabed up the instrument panel with new gauges, etc. Lexan windscreen and back light (and quarter windows). Compmotive 13X6 wheels, Spax adjustable coil overs in the rear with rod end lower wishbone, Adjustable coilovers in front. 8X20X13 Goodyear slicks all round. I made up the front airdam/splitter and front wheel arches (all carbonfiber) and will be doing a CF bonnet as soon as I recover from the engine build program which is in progress. Just finished fitting a TR6 box with a Quaife CR dog ring gear set which will hook up to the new 7lb steel flywheel with a 5.5" dual disc Quartermaster clutch. I will get some under hood shots once all is buttoned up in a couple of months (I hope). BTW, I'm 6' 2" and 200lb and have managed to fit myself in by sitting on the floor (with a backer plate welded on the under side) and back against the package shelf kick up. It's not too bad - the worst part is getting in and out for the over 70 driver!
